Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch vs DS'07 and PS4/XB1 vs PS360'15 Week July 17th

Who will win ?

DS, XBOX 360 and PS3 11 47.83%

Switch, XB1 and PS4 12 52.17%

Total:23

This is the Version 2 of the PlayStation/Xbox/Switch Hardware Battle that @PAOerfulone is maintaining every single week. This is not the same, and both of the battles will co-exist. There you can see PS5 and XBSX comparisons, as well as Switch year on year and here you can see how good or bad the PS4 and XB1 are going compared to their predecessors in 2015 as well as Switch best year vs DS best year. I will update this one every week with the new numbers.

As PS4 and XB1 are winding down, they are going further away from their predecessors in the same point in time - 2014. However there is other good coincidence, their next year - 2015 which for both of them is shaping to be what is going to become 2021 for PS4 and XB1 by numbers. Both consoles are going to do the same numbers or be barely ahead. That way we can have more clear image and have better understanding of where the PS4 and XB1 are going this year with much more reachable numbers. It is more interesting and close battle than the 2014 one.

And since Nintendo Switch is on track to have it's best year yet, let's put it against the best competitor (by total sales per year) that it can have - the DS. And it's best year - 2007. (2008 is slightly better however there were 53 weeks, and only 100k difference, so it would be more fare to compare a year with 52 weeks just like this one, and with stronger weekly numbers than 2008)

Looks like some close races here. Switch vs DS is the most interesting here for sure

PS4 could reach 2mil this year at most imo.
Switch is insanely close to the DS, it definitely has a chance to beat DS 2007. MHR week should help the Switch regain it's lead.

Updated numbers with week 11!

All three consoles are UP overall this week.

The Switch being able to follow the DS' numbers so closely reminds me of the days where we were discussing whether the NX was going to be a flop or not...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Switch and NDS numbers seem so absurdly high. xD
Actually I dont think it will beat NDS this year, but I guess it is not impossible. Quite amazing. Probably it will be a pretty close race of both within +-10% of each other.
btw. VGC yearly sales charts legacy "archive" has NDS 2007 at 29,508,695 units, but actually thats kind of the same^^

I am a little confused why you are choosing 2015 instead of 2014. My reasoning is this:

2014 - First full year for PS3/XB360 after their successor released.
2021 - First full year for PS4/XB1 after their successor released.

Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing my explanation in the original post.

@PAOerfulone is doing the comparison vs the 2014 year.

So this that you are talking about is already there, but both of the consoles are lagging too much behind, and the battle is not interesting because PS4 will not make 3.7M this year and XB1 is not reaching 2.7M either. So there is no point in this.

I did 2015 because it's much more interesting, competitive and close battle, and also we can get much better perspective how far or close are PS4 and XB1 to 1.6M and 1M numbers respectively this year. Because those numbers are much more reachable for their performance till now.

I am not looking for logic or reason, I am looking for competition and close battles.

I think Switch can beat DS this year, if it keeps the good pace
