Looks like the next gen consoles got some shipments this week. Not just the PS5, also the XS is up quite a bit this week.

Around the Network

Momotaro is still selling over 90k a week. RFA is actually up 3% this week. Those are some amazing legs. Switch still has a solid lock on the top 10. Wonder how long it can keep that up? Switch selling very impressively all around.

Switch's Top performing 3rd Party games are starting to catch up to the PS4,

By the mid-April Monster Hunter Rise should be the Top Selling 3rd Party game on the PS4/NSW.

Momotaro is looking like it will overtake Minecraft in one or two weeks. Eventually it will finish above Monster Hunter: World. The game is already the second best selling game of all time for Konami in Japan.

Top 3 Konami All Time

  1. [GB] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4 (2000) - 2.210.162
  2. [NSW] Momotaro Dentetsu (2020) - 1.710.394
  3. [GB] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (1998) - 1.522.968

Pretty amazing performance overall, it's already almost caught up with Super Mario Party which was the game I compared it to pre-launch. It's looking very likely that lifetime it will join the 3 million club! A very exclusive club for 3rd Parties which I believe only Capcom & Level-5 have been able to achieve in the past decade via a single SKU. The last Square Enix game that surpassed 3 million on a single platform was Dragon Quest IX in 2009 on the DS:

2008-2020 Three Million+ Club

  1. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (2010) - 4.840.930
  2. [DS] Dragon Quest IX (2009) - 4.402.263
  3. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (2008) - 4.226.265
  4. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 (2013) - 3.591.334
  5. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch 2 (2014) - 3.169.858

Switch powers on through the start of the year, both the 25th year since Pokemon and 35th since Zelda btw.

  • HARDWARE GAP 2020 vs 2021: -939.133
  • SOFTWARE GAP 2020 vs 2021: -496.225

2021 Q1 Software Line-up:

  • Week 5: Disgaea 6(NIS); BOND(NINTENDO)
  • Week 6: empty
  • Week 7: Bowser's Fury(NINTENDO); Little Nightmares(BANDAI)
  • Week 8: empty
  • Week 9: Olive Town(MARVELOUS); Bravely Default 2(SQUARE);
  • Week 10: empty
  • Week 11: empty
  • Week 12: Densha GO!(SQUARE)
  • Week 13: Monster Hunter Rise(CAPCOM)

Even without the pandemic creating additional demand, Nintendo would have been in a great position but as we can see at Week 9 Software Sales in 2021 will surpass 2021 Software sales for the Quarter. While Monster Hunter Rise could very well open above 2 million physical. Next few weeks are going to be very interesting especially with so much new software launching compared to 2020 when the only new game that launched that cleared 50K sales were Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix, Persona 5 Scramble and in the final week of the quarter we had New Horizon and One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4.

In the meantime the next major game on the PS4/PS5 is Resident Evil: Village, all the way in May... I mean as far as the next three months are concerned I'd be suprised to see any PS4/PS5 games crack 50K sales

3DS, a literally dead system, ahead of Xbox Series. Why do MS even bother.

At this point, Momotaro is carrying the Switch as much as Ring Fit and Animal Crossing. At least until February when we get a double whammy of Bowser's Fury and Bravely Default II. Then, when Monster Hunter drops, all bets are off.

PS5 rebounded quite nicely, hopefully its a sign of things to come.

How long has it been since Famitsu stopped tracking the Xbox One?

Ever since the Series X came out, they would have stopped sooner had the One not only been the most recent Xbox.
