I'm talking about sexualizing real teenagers, not fictional anime characters. Which is why I state that he'd have more of a point if he meant purely fictional stuff. But the discussion was going into the direction of real-life consequences of sexualizing minors, the implication being real minors. I also don't mean that I know that having bad thoughts doesn't make you a deranged maniac or a cartoon villain, but it can lead to subtle distortions of reality, as in being accepting of ideas that just aren't healthy to have. Frankly, I think it's pretty self-explanatory how sexualizing real teenagers or pre-pubescent children can lead to bad consequences for someone's mental health and view of the world, it's not really a point that needs defending. |
I don't think that changes anything in regards to your cat-calling example. People don't cross the line from not cat-calling to cat-calling just because a lot of attractive ladies walked by. It isn't a product of the number of sexual thoughts, it is the interference of a separate variable. Taking action is largely distinct from attraction, and I would need to be presented actual evidence demonstrating that having sexual thoughts creates actual harm. It seems like negative thoughts towards yourself regarding sexual guilt would likely be more damaging to one's mental health than a completely normal sexual thought, which I wouldn't call "bad" or "unhealthy". This feels like an offshoot of classical religious arguments towards masturbation and sexuality, which seem to be far more self-evidently damaging than entirely normal sexual thoughts and entirely harmless sexual expression such as masturbation and playing ecchi games. |
You're missing the forest for the trees, cat calling is an example of an action caused by someone sexualizing someone who is just an ordinary human going about their business. The point being: You absolutely CAN sexualize things that might have an inherent sexual quality to them (like another human being). It doesn't matter that people who are pubescent technically have a sexual aspect to their development, you can still sexualize them, and that's what's wrong when we're talking about minors.
You took half a post which was just about how you can sexualize human beings (which are inherently sexual) and made it about whether someone does an action or not, or whether fictional risquee porn is wrong, when that's literally not the point of my post and I already addressed those two things right here:
"You could argue that the issue with cat calling is that it's an action not a thought, but the issue with and what makes sexualization of young teens wrong is that sexualizing that in your mind can lead to a distortion of reality, where you start normalizing things that aren't normal. "
"You might have had a point if you stuck to purely fictional stuff"
Your two nitpicks make no sense because, they were already addressed. Unless what you're really defending is having sexual thoughts of real minors and indulging in them, in which case just be honest about it, because trying to misinterpret my post as something it's not isn't helping you.
Personally, while I get it's culturally taboo, I don't really care if people indulge in fiction. But when the discussion goes to such stupid lengths as "you can't sexualize minors past a certain age because they already have the capacity to be sexual since they have gone through puberty", I'm sorry, but that's just a dumb thing to say.
