In the bolded part you talk about production value, and I find it concerning that you seemingly put that as a deciding criterion for game quality. Going after this, no AAA gamecan ever be seen as bad, as at least the poured enough resources into it to create shiny graphics and modern systems. But a game with low production value like Among Us, can be so much more enjoyable than a soulless AAA game.
Sure, using all capabilities of the system can be verys good, but only if it supports an actual good game at it's core.
My comment shouldn't be projected at TLOU2 or Pokemon Sw/Sh in particular, as I played neither game and have no opinion on them. But I would object on a general principle to putting too much importance on big budget production value.
- Insert popular game not on my platform of choice.
joking aside.. for me, most indie games.
The word, "most" is a superlative, there should be only one. Not a list hahahhahaha

Metal Gear Solid 5 (I played through the definitive experience on the xbox. This game I played off and on over the course of a year, last year and this year. It started off fantastic (the first few hours) , but it quickly went out of control from there for me.
I loved the graphics and the gameplay. The gameplay is by far the best in the series.
Building up your base was really awesome.
However, what I did not like was..
1) The story was really hard to follow, I hated how they had important story information hidden in cassette tapes. The codec from 1-4 was so much better. And for me, MGS games are all about the story.
2) Unfinished story, this again for me was a big let down, it felt like after mission 25 or so that a lot of stuff was just repeated missions with a little new story here and there (why on earth did they do this?)
3) The repeat missions and the filler missions really make this game not re-playable, imo. And MGS1-4 I replayed multiple times.
4) I did not like the open world missions in between story missions in MGSV. The open world missions should all have been side missions. Made the game so much longer than it should have been.
I honestly dont know if I will ever reply this game again, just because its not a fast playthrough like 1-4 are. Which for me is a huge bummer.
This was the game I was looking forward to most playing and ended up being my biggest letdown.

Everybody is entitled to their perspective, but I staunchly disagree that system capabilities and assets matter in determining a game's worth. To me that is like rating a movie based on special effects or a book based on how pretty the binding is. To me it is irrelevant. A game is rated on entertainment value. 13 Sentinels is one of the best ps4 games I've played... it uses very little system capabilities.
Personally I would rate Pokemon S/S and Last 2 very similar. Both were just ok for me, but neither were 1/10, frankly neither were even that close to 1/10. 1/10 would mean a completely unplayable mess of a game, not "the developers took the game in a direction I didn't like."

You are completely right and I agree with you, but I was making a comparison between those 2 games and I can't think any aspect where Pokemon could stay in the same level as TLOU
The value production is important for me, it's not an indie vs high budget production comparison, rather two games with pretty much the same sales potential so yes I expect production value for a franchise like Pokemon to be very high, if it not comes then it's a week point imo
There are games where the gameplay experience lowkey justify smaller production value, as the game won't get any better with higher budgets (Fall Guys, Pikimin for instance), but Pokemon is an RPG that focus on exploration and is certainly NOT one of those games. In reality Pokemon games are in a desperate need of higher production budget, if you go to see how ugly and unfinished Wild Area looks like you will understand what I mean

It was just an aspect I wanted to point, I can explain better why I don't think Pokemon and TLOU2 are far from the same level
People rightfully criticize the IA and lack of evolution in gameplay on TLOU2 bit the exact same problems happens to be present in Pokemon, indeed Pokemon gameplay is absolutely garbage at this point. You can't turn off exp share and the game even tells you exactly how to take advantage of elemental differences from your opponent. It's almost impossible to lose a battle, making the game nothing but a painful experience of clicking the A button mindlessly the whole playthrough
There is absolutely nothing to explore or backtrack in the maps as well (que routes are the most limited since 2nd gen, which is crazy thinking in how technology progressed in so much time) and with the Dexit put almost every pokemon easily appearing in the Wild Area there isn't even much trouble to catch them all anymore. No reason to spend time looking the line up of Pokemon in the grass, as they pop up by themselves
The multiplayer battles become unbearable thanks to very dumb (and clearly not-tested with competitive in mind) mechanics. Competitive is not unplayable yet, but it's getting close
No post game, no quests... and of course the cherry on top is a very expensive paid DLC that should be present as a base game content in first place
It's not an average game, average games are XY or SM. It's a bad game in any sense of the word... well unless you don't mind just clicking the A button for 10 hours (it's all that it takes to beat the game) to skip dialogues and easily win every battle
I guess where I differ with Pokemon S/S is judging based on the game it was intended to be. It was never intended to be an ultra hardcore highly strategic adult game. Pokemon S/S is kid friendly, with kids being their main target audience. And for youngers kids the game is really good. My kids enjoyed the heck out of it. To me most of the criticisms of Pokemon S/S are silly. That would be like me giving Sesame Street 1/10 because it doesn't have blood, drugs, nudity and lacks foul language.
And look I get it, those who grew up with Pokemon want an adult Pokemon rpg... but that isn't the path Pokemon is taking. It is aligning itself to capture the younger generation, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Either way, I don't have issue with somebody giving Pokemon say a 5/10, opinions are opinions. 1/10 is absurd, same goes for Last Jedi.
As for me, I beat both Pokemon S/S and Last 2. Both were solid, neither will be played again.
Edit
and I still find the whole production value/graphic perspective not my thing. I will play 13 Sentinels all day long before picking Last 2 back up... and 13 Sentinels is very low production, but still is a much better game. I think Last 2 is something like 80 gb, while 13 Sentinels is 5 gb...

Being kid friendly doesn't justify lazy map design and a mandatory exp share usage. Doesn't justify the very strange decision on putting any Pokemon in a wild area to get easier to catch them
Neither remove all post game content to sell as DLC
Neither make the smallest story mod of all mainline games
Besides, we still having the competitive side. Why destroy competitive just to put a new dumb gimmick like Dynamax?
It's called laziness
