Have you considered the fact that 2020 has 53 weeks? Arguably an unfair advantage when comparing the two years, but if 2020 is counted as a 53 week year then it should definitely hit 6 mil.

Well, no. My table has 52 weeks, so I obviously did not expect Famitsu to track 53 weeks this year. I don't know their logic to determine at which point they have a year with 53 weeks.

If anyone knows one way or the other, it would be nice if they could confirm it.

Well I only know the standard is that the Thursday of a week determines what year it's in since that's considered the middle. I don't know for a fact if Famitsu follows this or not though.

Momotaro continues to impress.
It's effectively the Switch's holiday game in the absence of the usual first party heavy hitter. Granted it's not on the level of the likes of Smash or Pokemon, but it's the biggest Switch release in Japan for the year's final quarter.

DerbyStallion is below 22K this week, legs are not great, something I feared due to it's high price - it needs the price to be lowered by 1

Looking at Amazon reviews gives me the impression that it's not just the price that's the issue.

When people are paying a premium price they want a premium experience :)

The game is doing fine in the eShop it's still in the Top 10 for Week 51 for example, so I wouldn't worry too much.

It will end up the best selling DerbyStallion in over a decade without much problems and will be a massive success for a small publisher like GameAddict and small dev team like Land Ho.

There is no question however that if it had a lower price similar to Sakuna's Y5,000 it would sell much better.

Shouldn't you also add Xbox if you have started listing zeros?

Around the Network

The expansion pack seems to have really helped out Pokemon Sword and Shield. Combined they would be top 5.
Also looks like next week they will outsell SSBU. Physical copies, at least.

has any Xbox game ever even gotten into the top 20 since the 360 days?

Xbox getting zero is a given, it's always that way. PS5 getting a zero on the other hand is more noteworthy.

It does feel a bit cruel though, so I'll probably remove it.

  • Konami officially surpassed 1 million physical sales for the year
  • Doesn't seem like Microsoft will be challenged for the 2nd place
  • Bandai & Square have a pretty pathetic showings and declines YoY
  • Capcom is completely missing
  • A lot more diversity this year as Imagineer, Teyon, GameAddict & Warner have success on the system
