Forums - Sales Discussion - USA: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. PS5 breaks PS4's launch record

News from America: "The November 12-released PlayStation 5 achieved the highest launch month unit and dollar sales for video game hardware in the United States, according to NPD numbers released today. The records were previously held by the November 2013-released PlayStation 4".

"The xbox series (launched on November 10), debuted lower than predecessor xbox one". "Spider-Man: Miles Morales is November's best-selling exclusive". The PS5 is sold out worldwide and, due to the difficult Corona period, is only available digitally from retailers.

"According to the NPD, the PS5 controller had the highest unit and dollar sales for a gamepad in its launch month in US history". Interesting to see.

I think that the PS5 Dualsense will be very popular and important for games in the future because it intensifies the gaming experience. Astros Playroom is already a good example of this. Let's see if there is an opportunity for everyone in the store to try out the new Dualsense feature next year.

Swear MS came out and said differently.

How? More people want this new xbox then last gen.
Only way is they fucked up the launch and don't have enough units.

Dat title, dat smile, dem pics. I feel like someone is riding a high lol

Anyways Gratz to Sony and PlayStation, MS really should’ve had more stock.

I think it was PR speak like some were expecting. They said biggest launch, and then added in the qualifier of launching in more countries than ever before.

Stock capacity is probably most a factor of how much long term demand they forecast, and how much they allocated for specific market.
I think I remember MS saying their UK sales were best ever, but if they didn't increase long term production they may have diverted stock from US to do that.
I tried to check VGChartz data for lastgen launch but couldn't get a coherent result, but maybe somebody else is able to figure that out?

Yeah that is about what I remember too, which wasn't specifying US market, so their global launch may have been largest without the US being so.

Honestly they messed up this launch. Lot of people were eager to buy before Xmas (me included).

To heard that it sold less than the XBOX ONE that had negative publicity around launch is concerning just how they fucked up and needed more stock.

The Xbox One wasn't manufactured and launched in an Pandemic year with huge logistic problems.

Didn't expect that, especially beating PS4 records during the pandemic.
