Did sakuna on switch get restock?

Not as of these numbers it would seem, no. Seems to be a common problem in Japan with the Switch SKU of third party titles seeing insufficient stock in the launch window.

Sakuna's Switch edition only got a minor shipment on Amazon.co.jp yesterday and due to the timing of the shortages, it's unlikely Marvelous will be able to supply that many physical copies until mid-December. Still it will be interesting how big the first major restock will be, especially knowing how much consoles will be sold in the coming weeks in Japan.

The game remains in 2nd place on the Japanese eShop two weeks after it's launch only behind Momotaro which is the biggest 3rd Party launch on the Switch. Considering the 500K announcement it won't have much issue surpassing 1 million this year and once the stock situation is normalized I believe it will re-enter the Famitsu Top 30 and will stay there for a considerable amount of time. It's really benefiting from very strong WoM, a team that seems committed to continuing to update it and a genre that ensures strong legs.

The developers have already released a few minor updates and after the initial success, I can see Marvelous potentially investing more money into the game for a more substantial update in the coming months/quarters.

Overall it's an unexpected hit, but once again shows that Nintendo Japan's YouTube channel can sometimes provide hints about which smaller games might have the biggest potential. Next games that will test this theory are Derby Stallion, Atelier 2 & Fit Boxing 2

We will see real acceleration in the coming weeks/months, by the end of the FY Switch's 3rd Party Top 30 will be either very close or already above the PS4's Top 30.

Third party games don't sell on PS consoles. No wonder that so many publishers have decided to make their games also for Switch, Xbox and PC.

Famitsu Top 100 PS4/PSV/PS3 SKUs(2014 - 2019):

  1. PS4 2018 - 8.645.408
  2. PS4 2017 - 8.360.977
  3. PS4 2016 - 7.328.612
  4. PS4 2019 - 7.181.200
  5. PS3 2014 - 5.733.625
  6. PS4 2015 - 3.945.641
  7. PSV 2016 - 3.512.146
  8. PSV 2014 - 3.506.996
  9. PSV 2015 - 3.443.471
  10. PS3 2015 - 2.993.064
  11. PS4 2014 - 1.958.725
  12. PSV 2017 - 1.101.089
  13. PS3 2016 - 1.091.532
  14. PSV 2018 - 582.890

By Year:

  1. PS Eco System 2016 - 11.932.290
  2. PS Eco System 2014 - 11.199.346
  3. PS Eco System 2015 - 10.382.176
  4. PS Eco System 2017 - 9.462.066
  5. PS Eco System 2018 - 9.228.298
  6. PS Eco System 2019 - 7.181.200

They tried their best, there is barely any franchises that didn't end up on the PlayStation 4 at some point, hell even Level-5 at one point tried to support them. The issue is that as soon as Switch became a success in Japan, the audience third parties were aiming for started to transition. PS4 achieved it's best result in 2018 thanks to MHW, but it was obvious that would be the last year that we would see growth on the system.

The bigger issue for 3rd Parties is that PSV audience basically transitioned to Switch which is evident by the results of Sony since PS4's launch. The system continued to receive support and contribute to Sony's decent results overall even though it was never the top performing platform for them. But the vast majority of games sold on the Vita were 3rd Party titles. Once audience identified Switch as Vita's replacement we can see that Sales sharply dropped by close to 2 million from 2016 to 2017 on the Vita which up until that point have very stable sales of 3.5 million per year.

2020 result of the PS4/PS5 will be below 5 million, and that's despite Final Fantasy VII Remake doing twice the amount of the best selling PS3/PS4/PSV game in 2015 - Minecraft.

Next year will be even worse as I doubt PS5 will manage to sell above 1.5 million hardware by the end of 2021 and there is not much chance that even with Final Fantasy XVI we don't see further decline. This will be confounded by PS4 dropping like a rock compared to the PS3 which managed 3 million software sales in 2015.

The fact that Momotaro can jump straight to #6 in its first week, in the system's 4th year, really show how much third parties have slacked off on Switch so far. Thankfully this is changing with the likes of Monster Hunter Rise/Stories 2 and Bravely Default II in the pipe.

Amazing debut for Age of Calamity

Only 2 PS5 games on the top 30, and combined they only add to 6K. Isn't that worrying? Unless everyone is buying digital.

Im pretty sure majority of PS5 owners in Japan are just playing PS4 games. Nothing in their launch lineup seems to have the same impact as Zelda BOTW or even 1 2 Switch lol

When you don't have software that can even match 1-2 Switch, you know something is wrong with your launch lineup. At least the PS5 is backwards compatible (for the most part) or else the launch lineup would've gained greater scrutiny. Outside of Astro Bot (which is included with the console), apparently the first party games were...ok. Nothing that will make you say, "I must have a PS5 for this or else" as Mile Morales was also on PS4 and Demon Souls is a remake. No offense to remakes, but they usually don't headline a launch lineup. What helped BotW get away with what Miles Morales is going through is, despite selling on Wii U and Switch at the same time, not many people had a Wii U, nor were thinking of playing Zelda on Wii U anymore. Not to mention it is considered one of the greatest games of all-time, if not the generation, and garnered consistent attention all the way to winning multiple GoTY awards, even overshadowing the likes of Horizon: Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Nier Automata, and Super Mario Odyssey.

Though weirdly enough, PS4 didn't really launch with a memorable launch lineup. It partly succeed thanks to the built-up hype, especially after E3 when Sony basically put Microsoft on notice, taking advantage of people being disappointed with the Xbone having "questionable" features. Plus, the latest CoD (which was considered one of the worst installments of the franchise) and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag were launching on the PS4 (and Xbone)...which is ironic considering history just repeated itself with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Weirdly enough, CoD and Assassin's Creed don't carry the same weight now as they did back when the PS4 and Xbone launched despite still being successful franchises. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't really hear much about Cold War and Valhalla on social media.

PS5 has the software. It's hardware is incredibly stock constricted, so you won't see software climb until hardware does.

ME is included. I remember someone saying MH Base sell 10-12 M only on PS4. Well... someone is wrong. And the sales of expansion, excluded japan:  PC > PS4. And the base too. The Ps4 west power is not soo powerful.
