50 million or more seems like a lot for S/X to me. It's going to start out with a very mediocre library and it'll go on with similar weaknesses that the Xbox One had, like a bare-bones first party lineup. Only thing going for Xbox is the cheaper alternative but it won't be enough. I don't see pulling more than 50, especially when it has to make better its performance across Europe.
My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
PS5
N.America - 32m
Europe - 45m
Japan - 8m
Other - 19m
Total: 104 million
XSX
N.America - 40m
Europe - 17m
Japan - N/A
Other - 7m
Total: 64 million
PS5 - 110 million
XBS - 70 million

PS5 - 120M
X series X - 70M
As most do, I think the series X will make up ground but not too much. PS5 will sell slightly less than PS4. BTW, I dont believe in this 5 year console gen that some are mentioning. While that is what people may be saying, due to the cosys of the device, i think both MS and Sony will be in no hurry to switch to another console so I dont see too much of a difference happening. I see it more likely that as tje Xbox Game pass continues to grow, that MS may decide to pull out of the console business altogether.

PlayStation 5: 105M
XBox Series: 70M
Seems fair to predict a total number similar to the total of the current gen as that hasn’t increased much since the total of the last and even the 6th gen (minus Nintendo obviously), and to give XBox a bigger piece of the pie this time around since it seems like they’ll be a better competition.

Hoo mama. That's some bone broth you're serving up for Xbox. -I didn't even see the other low predictions for XBSX. Wow you guys. |
It's simple math. What do we currently have ?
- Series X, the most powerful console with Game Pass, sold at 499$
- Series S, the least powerful console with Game Pass, disc-less, sold at 299$
In the other hand:
-PS5, slighlty less powerful than the Series S, sold at 499$ and at 399$
It's the Xbox One vs PS4 all over again. The One S spent its almost entire lifespan being way cheaper than the PS4 in order to sell something, while the greater power of the One X didn't help that much to drive sales. There is absolutely no difference.
Being the cheapest or the most powerful console doesn't drive sales. Console gaming is, for the past 25 years, to look what Sony has to offer, and then see other companies.
