I strongly agree with Ruka216 because the most important aspect of a controller is how it fits into your hands and this shape also makes sense because it will touch your palms more tighter ,exactly what is needed to make that haptic feedback count the most.

I need one like this:

I agree, I would prefer something like this, looks more sexy.

Heres what a mockup done in dark grey looks like:   Just as sexy.

Left analog stick and d-pad still in the wrong place. Guess Sony is content to keep this glaring design flaw created by a slapdash mid-generation redesign back in the 90s for a fifth generation.

It consistently keeps Sony's controller design at the bottom every generation (except maybe the original Xbox controller). It's a company embarrassment.

Elaborate.

Oh I think you know full well what he’s saying

The Xbox layout is generally accepted as the more comfortable and ergonomic controller. Sony got Xbox’s grip design down, maybe give it another generation to correct the left thumb stick and d pad ;)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Looks like a Xbox controller and DualShock had a baby. I like it, because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Yeah the Xbox Series X and Switch controllers are both very flattering for including the DualShock 4's Share button.

A button isn’t the same as the general design. People see the design similarity much clearer then a button.

I actually like this design. As some others have pointed out, the two tone has some interesting potential, and might actually hint at what to expect from the final console design.
I'm not worried about comfort because as far back as I can remember Sony has always pointed to comfort as a factor in their controllers, and aside from some super minor things, I've always been satisfied. And, especially they've never had anything that I've downright hated like N64, GameCube, or "the duke".

What I'm really interested in is this haptic feedback. Game news sites seem to imply it's just like the rumble triggers in XB1, but Sony seems to imply it's something more advanced than that. Curious what anyone here thinks about it.

I dig how it looks. I feel like it took a few cues from the Xbox controller while retaining the proper joystick position. It deviates a bit from the traditional while retaining what makes a PS controller identifiable: the symbols, the Home button and the parallel joysticks.

A mute button on the controller is a very welcome addition. However, I hope this doesn't mean an integrated microphone.

The color scheme is not an abomination like a lot of people make it out to be, but it could be better if this is the default option. I hope this means for a custom controller service in the future.

If this controller is a hint of how the PS5 will look, then I'm kinda hyped for it now.

Edit: Also DualSense, as opposed to DualShock... it could be that the purpose of the controller is not just to roughly "shock" and tremble based on what's happening on the game, but to smartly makes us "sense" the action as we play. That's what I take from the name.

From the official blog "DualSense also adds a built-in microphone array, which will enable players to easily chat with friends without a headset – ideal for jumping into a quick conversation."

That's ridiculous. A button influences the function of the controller and fundamentally alters how we interact with our games. Of the features introduced on the Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One controllers only the DualShock 4's Share button has become a standard. That's the effect of being an innovator and market leader.

https://www.vgchartz.com/article/441792/phil-spencer-discusses-xbox-series-x-design-name-controller-games-more/

The Xbox Series X controller is not much different from the Xbox One controller. It does feature a new share button in the middle and a different d-pad. The new controller is slightly smaller than the Xbox One controller, which at first glance most will not notice.

"There were certain things that we've learned through doing the Elite controller and just listening to fans," said Spencer. "One of them is on the d-pad we have a new hybrid d-pad that we've been working on that we think is important, so you'll get a sense of that in the new Xbox wireless controller.

"We do have a share button. We've heard the feedback. We're not the first ones to do a share button, so we're not going to say that we invented that, but we've heard feedback that sharing is such a part of a gaming experience now for many of our players that I wanted a dedicated hardware button to share, so you'll see that. We'll still have all the rumble triggers and haptic feedback that you've had in the console before."

Xbox Wire: Why did you decide to add a Share button?

Ryan Whitaker: Gaming is an important way people connect with each other. It’s often how friends hang out and stay in touch. Capturing and sharing epic or meme-worthy moments are part of that experience and should be as quick and unobtrusive as possible. Adding a Share button is the best way to make capturing and sharing instantaneous. It’s easy to just grab a screenshot or record a video without needing on-screen menus. Then you can easily access and share content with your favorite social platforms or directly with friends.

I'm not that fond of white controllers but those fan made renders below it are lit. I totally dig those.
