Best year so far?

2017 29 52.73%
2018 2 3.64%
2019 13 23.64%
2020 0 0%
Yet to come 11 20.00%

Tomorrow marks that landmark date of 03-03, three years of switching back and forth...

How has this past year been?

What about the past years?
- Two Years In
- One Year In
- Three Days In

What was your favourite memory on its third year?
What about your biggest nightmare?

Had tons of fun with co-op on Luigi's Mansion 3, what a blast and full of joy it was.

On the other hand Yoshi's Crafted World came and went, at least it had Poochy.

Gah, ya beat me to it, it's actually the 3rd today here in Australia, (and Japan/NZ/Europe) so I was gonna make a Switch anniversary thread haha.

2019 was excellent; I bought more games for Switch than I have for any one console in any one year since Wii in 2010.

My favourite memory for the year has to be Hellblade; as well as just being great in terms of gameplay and atmosphere, it spoke to me on a deeply personal level and moved me emotionally more than any other game I've ever played.

Biggest nightmare? Claybook. First game in years I regret buying. The concept but cool but the execution sucked, with the fiddly, pedantic physics making just controlling it a frustrating chore. But oh well.

If Switch can muster 3 more years on par with 2017 and 2019, it'll have a serious shot at becoming my new top system of all time.

Dragon Quest XI, but especially Fire Emblem saved 2019 and tied it with 2018 for me.
Sadly Untitled Goose Game left me cold. Also Pokémon wasn't that good.

village boy learns to jump.

In terms of volume, 2019 was clearly the best year for the system.
Great third party support, great first party releases - but with a pacing that left a lot to desire. First half was quite dire, second half was STACKED.

But damn, 2017 had so many highs it's hard to look past that.
BotW, SMO, XC2, MK8DX, Splatoon 2, Mario x Rabbids is a whole slew of quality exclusives there. A few of those are on my all time top list.

2018 was a great year for anyone not having a Wii U. Lots of great games.. but I pretty much played all of them so it was a bit of a slug.. Octopath Traveller sticks out for me. Love that game. Smash is nice and all.. but I'm no hardcore smash fan so I'm pretty done with that.

Currently in the longest draught in the Switch lifespan in terms of new releases.. not in to Pokemon, not in to Animal Crossing.. I havnt bought a single first party game since Luigis Mansion 3 and it looks like it might be until May before there's a new release for the Switch. A direct showing Nintendos plan for the next 6 months would be nice.

Yet to come because im optimistic about the future.
Subjectively, and talking only of my personal experience and taste, 2017 is my favorite so far. Got me BOTW and MK8Deluxe, which are my favorites of the console so far. 2019 is my close second with Astral Chain and Link's awakening remake.

I congratulate Nintendo for their success, the switch deserves it, even tough in my opinion the wiiU also deserved way more sales.

With that said, I'm always happy to see Nintendo doing well, they should take this as great news and cut the price on their best selling games such as Mario kart 8, Mario odyssey and Zelda. They sold many consoles, now they need to push the sales of games.

For me, it will be a very tall order for any year to top 2017; the one-two punch of BOTW and Mario Odyssey alone, one of the best games ever made and one of the top ten of the decade, is colossal on its own, but add in Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2, and Doom 2016, and it's truly fearsome. 2019 may have had more good games in total but for me it didn't offer any in the same godly league as BOTW or Odyssey.

Nintendo has had great success with the Switch so far. I wish them continued momentum for sales and quality game releases.

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

2017 has been the best year for the system so far for me, no doubt about it. Super Mario Odyssey, BotW, DOOM, and last but not least Xenoblade 2 made it fantastic and very memorable. Last year also had a lot of games I was interested in, though, half of which I haven't even touched yet.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
