Looks like today n-CoV will overtake SARS in numbers of infected people (8096 for SARS, n-CoV currently at 7715 8286 and climbing fast)

WHO delcares global emergency

It overtook it on confirmed cases but not in dead toll. That stands at 213 Vs 774. Looks like is more infectious but not as deadly. 

SARS killed over the course of a year I believe. This has only been a month. I saw projections that if it continues at current exponential pacing, then after 30 days, 130 million or so will be infected with 23 million or so dead.

It's too early to tell. This thing has a 10 day gestation period that it can spread without symptoms and another 8 days till symptoms get severe, so 18 days before an infected person is at risk of death. That's nearly a month of thinking they are healthy or just have a cold, not taking it seriously. The deaths this week are still from the first wave of infected. Just wait till this 1k+ new infections each day begin having severe symptoms next week. This is going to get worse. I just hope that numbers outside China remain steady, but I'm concerned that it was being spread in other countries before they even knew to watch for it, and now people are out there thinking they just have the flu, but it is really coronavirus.

Confirmed cases are as Vegeta says OVER 9000!! and only 213 dead. Also 187 of the confirmed cases have recovered. Finally we know madagascar and greenland are hard to infect so humanity will survive. We can Calm down.

SARS didn't kill everybody in just one month, give it time. Just look at the rate people die: right now, over 30 persons die per day from the virus. Even without new infections, there would be quite a lot of people who still were to die because they are already in a critical state.

You don't die on the first day of infection. You have to wait until people get better to say they survived the illness. So confirmed deaths always lag behind confirmed cases a few days (depending on how long it takes to get through the illness). Still, overall it looks like the epedemic is at least somewhat contained.
