Hmm, maybe if I am not too lazy, I could create a software that supports you in creating the lists. Especially putting in the lists as texts and the software tries to match the game on each entry. Even if only half of it is recognized, this probably is the part that is the most work.
I'm a bit hazy though in how the points work. Does #50 get one point, #49 two points and so on to #1 getting 50 points?
Yeah, probably how the ranking works and how Nintendo games are perceived works in favor of them, because I see the single lists are way more diverse than the TOP 20. Maybe the point-system can be tweaked so it works not more so much in favor of Nintendo.

That would be awesome, but I'm not sure it's necessary. While compiling the lists does take quite some time as is, it wouldn't have been as troublesome if I had done it in a daily basis instead of ignoring everything up until the last week of December. I should be able to do that this year, since there won't be a Smash release causing me to lose countless hours not just playing the game but also helping organize launch events and such. Ultimately, doing everything in a hurry after the turn of the year is what made it seem like more work than in actually was, not to mention all the usual distractions such as my GPU suddenly having overheating problems and my friends inviting me to spend a weekend on the beach (which, coupled with my parents going to another beach meant I wasn't home for a whole week). If I spread out the work a little more, it'll be fine.
As for the points system, it being my first time meant I didn't wanna change too much, but I have thought about tweaking it recently. I specifically thought about maybe a system where the first few votes are worth a lot, but then when a game has loads of votes the average ranking becomes more important, or something - such a system would make certain games that get loads of votes but not as many high votes (such as Mario Kart 8) go quite a bit down the list. But ultimately, I think maybe it's best to keep the system as is, because it makes everyone's votes worth the same and I think that's an important value.
I'm not sure about sharing exactly how it works, though, because that secrecy was always kinda part of the magic of the event but it is very close to what you suggested, yeah.

Hmm, there are always distracting things, making things easier is just something computers should do. Let me think about it.
Yeah, changing the point system always takes the risk that it is possible to game it for the own benefit. I only mentioned it, as some are unhappy with the Nintendo dominance, which I don't see in the single lists, but undertand how it builds up in complete listing. Maybe something can be done, but I am overall pretty good with the event and don't wanna break it.
And I realized, if I don't make something to calculate everything but just some support software, I don't need to know how the system actually works. So keep the secrecy.
