Not enough Nintendo games in the top 10 IMO...

Well, I stand by what I said earlier. I'm not changing the points system to artificially bring more diversity to the top of the lists at the cost of devaluing the importance of user votes. The "too much Nintendo" debate here was inevitable, but most of it is ironically coming from people who didn't take part in the event, so what I suggest is, if you wanna see a change, do consider joining in next time. It's fun, too.

I appreciate this, thanks. Sure, the top of the list looks weird, but more participants can "fix" that.

I will have to get in on the voting this year, have to get Chrono Trigger where it belongs in the top 5! Easily my number one as I beat it for the 20th+ plus time this past Summer and still holds up after all these years!

Amen to that! I blame myself for its "bad" position this year.

A top 50 list is pretty daunting. I did go through the effort to actually redo my list though this year after reusing 2015s in 2016 and 2017.

No, this forum is Nintendo dominated. There are more Nintendo topics/threads in the forum and Nintendo threads get way more replies. Most of the thread polls confirm the same thing.

I think in general that Nintendo fans (compared to Playstation and Xbox fans) are the most active users in internet forums. And on this site it is really extreme. I guess that Nintendo fans are the oldest gamers among the big three and therefore participate more on these internet gaming forums.

Just out of interest, is ResetEra more balanced with the fanbases?

Well, I think the bold is true.  But about half of the threads and replies are people hating on Nintendo.  It is true that people talk about Nintendo more, but it could be positive or negative.

You are right that there are always people who hate Nintendo in some of the Nintendo threads but most of the time it's only 1 or 2 posts that are about hating Nintendo and they usually get 20-30 replies. So it's not like half of the thread is about people hating on Nintendo it's more like half of the thread is the Nintendo community bashing together the 1-2 Nintendo hate posts.

And there are always people who hate in one community, there are also people who do the same thing in Playstation threads. But I guess since you mostly play on Nintendo you will not realize that and only perceive the Nintendo hate posts.

I don't see a problem with the way the scores add up to create the final list. It is what it is. Maybe it needs more promotion to get more votes. That could help the diversity.

Trying to change the scoring sounds like a recipe for very weird results to come out that doesn't really align with the voting.

True. Whatever we do, we can't erase the Playstation/Nintendo-bias of this community anyways. Barely any Xbox, PC-gamers or Retro-gamers (besides Nintendo/Playstation retro), basically non-existant mobile or MMO-gamers. This diversity we don't get in any case.

True words but it should also be noted that the Nintendo bias is way bigger than the Playstation bias on this site.

The problem I have with Xbox and PC games is that they just don't hold up all that well in retrospect. Ask me to play Pikmin 2, and I'm all for it. Ask me to go back to Civ 4? Not in a million years. That game is just so clunky even by 2004 standards. Morrowwind, and Oblivion (even though it did come to PS3) are two more examples. Those games have both aged hilariously badly. The original Half Life, and Witcher are pretty much unplayable, even when compared to contemporary games like Halo (for Half LIfe), and Fable II (for the Witcher).

What an awful lot of work you put into this. Really interesting read, thanks.

I did find it a tad disappointing to see games getting in the top 100 with just a handful of votes when comparing to how things have been in previous years, but I guess that's just the state of VGC these days! At least a couple of my games got in the top 20!

I really need to shake up my list next year. I mostly just re-used last year's and forgot to add a lot of stuff.

Depends on the game.

Civ 3 holds up for me quite well, Smash bros melee holds up, but ask me to play OG Smash bros instead, no thanks.

Yeah I don't understand how anybody could vote for OG Smash over Melee. That, and Goldeneye getting a spot in the top 100 gave me an aneurysm.
