Seems like Somy needs them PS4 discounts and deals to keep it alive.

So big drops. Seems that smash will take longer to pass splatoon 2.
I wonder how would be the new baseline for switch. was 40k in 2018. Seems that it would be like 20k more this year.

Not surprisingly, sales fell off a cliff. Good opening for NSMBUDX.

Vesperia did decently considering the japanese had already got the extra content that the remaster has.

Not a bad hold for Switch and Smash Bros had an expected drop. But damn what a run it had in December. Smash Bros. Ultimate is already in the Splatoon and Monster Hunter World tier for this generation in Japan. It really vindicates Nintendo for promoting Ultimate as their big title of the year despite some naysayers.

"It's a port of the Wii U game!"
"There're too many Smash Directs!"
"Smash Bros. isn't a system seller like Mario or Zelda or Pokemon"
"Why is Nintendo relying on Smash (and Pokemon Let's Go) to carry them through the holidays?"

Well there's your answer.

People actually said Smash isn't a system seller?

Oh yes, very much so.

Many in fact argued that the series peaked saleswise with Brawl and would sell less than it's 13M: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/dev2016/post.php?id=8955521

So proud of Xbox One moving to the second level of pixels in that last graph.  You can do it buddy.

historically it has sold far better than Zelda, eg smash on the GameCube was the best selling title on the platform even better than any Mario game!

i can’t believe people said it wasn’t a system seller, even the wii U version was a huge success with a massive attach rate

Yes! Don't know how many times I read "People who will buy Smash already have a Switch"

I'd say Zelda isn't even a system seller in Japan while Metroid is very niche, more niche that FE was pre awakening. B tier, smash is, I thought, in Japan. Before BoTW and SSBU happened.

The race between Splatoon and smashU will be interesting to watch...

Hmm, looks like Switch could settle at around the same baseline as last year (40K per week) or maybe a bit higher. PS4 looks like it will fall under last years baseline (18K).
