Ya but he said its Sony's fault, Sony did their job by getting all or most of the Japanese publishers on board, Sony doesnt control how 3rd parties handle their franchises.

First of all, it isn't even completely true, that the PS4 had the full backing of Japanese third-parties. They released their games on PS3, PS Vita and 3DS. Heck, Persona 5 was released one and half year ago. Even then Atlus did release it on PS3 parallel to PS3. And if you look at sales: while American sales were a bit stronger than japanese for this title on PS4 (470K vs. 440K), on PS3 the title sold only significant in Japan (60K in the US, 140K in japan). PS3 was after all these year a thing for japanese publishers. And that isn't true only for Persona, many japanese releases doubled on PS3 and PS4. Or they did go with Vita. Sometimes even without a PS4-release.

And the reason for that is, that the sales on PS4 were comparatively weak in Japan. And the reason for that is - that Sony initially showed pretty clear their focus was in the west. It was not alone the late release for the console in Japan, it was that Sony made first-party titles mostly for the west. This has changed over the last year though. Sony shows more initiative, one thing for instance is Ghost of Tsushima. This shows results. The 3rd-parties dropped PS3 and moving their Vita-games to PS4 and Switch. But Sony has lost a lot of trust of the japanese gamers at the beginning of the gen. They don't get it back that easy. If they keep on it though, the PS5 might show better sales in Japan.

Yes PS4 had to share many games with PS3 or Vita in Japan, no different from it sharing most western games with XBO/PC and in the first couple years PS3/360.

Fact remains that most major publishers in Japan have given PS4 strong support. And when did Sony 1st party ever prioritize Japan?

Yeah, the European numbers are weird. Why would the Switch be down when Nintendo said momentum increased after E3 and software charts support this?

Notice their choice of words, "momentum", not "sales". Sales could even be a little down weekly, but they are greatly up YoY also in Europe (almost 30% up YoY in Europe for the last week of July, and in the previous weeks it was considerably up YoY too). If sales are up YoY even during slow weeks, while sales can be down WoW, their momentum can definitely be described as increased. Never dropping too much anywhere, even in the slowest weeks and in the weakest regions, will show a lot more its effects at the end of the year, on the yearly total and on the weekly average.

Well, it is Sony's fault. They showed the japanese customer that they aren't a priority for PS4. They released later and focused on western games. Only this year they started to focus to Japan, with Monster Hunter World. But the effect of that game has worn off, now Sony must put more effort in it to keep the japanese gamers.

Eh, PS4 has had the backing of pretty much every major Japanese publisher, it basically only lacks Yokai Watch in terms of big Japanese IP.

Well, they had to choose between the PS4, a dying and worldwide unsuccessful Wii U and the in Japan dead-on-arrival Xbox ONE. For Japanese developers who wanted to create home console games for the Japanese market, the question was less "who's the best one?" and more like "which one sucks the least?".

With the Switch being both a handheld and a home console and on top of that very successful both in and outside of Japan, I'm pretty sure that the Japanese developers are slowly Switching to Nintendo right now, unless the game is too demanding for the Switch.

Ps4 doing well but in July switch even better. Fair play.

ps4 is doing really good compared to the switch, if we think that the ps4 is some years older

Well that's how it usually goes... system sells at the very best when there's a great library and a pricecut or two has been made. It probably peaked last year but it's going to be close to it this year. PS4increased sales every year for 4 straight.

and still great games that have to be released, so still good times for ps4 ahead

Most definately!

At this point I don't even know why it matters what the PS4 is selling compared to anything else. THe PS4 is already a gauranteed 100M selling console (at least by the end of its life) it has set and broken every relevant playstation record in sonys history and even though it would not have sold as well as the PS2 it would end up having ganered more revenue.

As far as I am concerned' the NS is running a solo race and would only really be compred to the PS4 as a platform after the NS2 is released.

Isnt this what people were telling you like a week or two ago when you were saying they need to cut the price?

PS4 just keep it close till Spider-Man. That game is gonna be huge. So many comic book sweaties are getting back into gaming just for that especially coming off his biggest movie ever
