Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan sales (Week 25) Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki - June 18 - June 24, 2018

Someone help me out here. People (most notably the Nintendo fans here who flock to the Japanese numbers every Wednesday) still believe that a game that came out in January, on a 4 year old console, is still expected to increase the baseline (which it already did, up 200k over last year) during the slowest months of the year and somehow its a bad thing when its not. I don't get it.

MHW is the #1 top-selling home console game (including digital) of its generation in Japan. Destroyed basically everything.

OT: Typical boring week. The combined effect of Smash, Pokemon, and maybe a Switch pricecut without stock shortages is what I'd like to see.

Its funny isn't it, 4-5 months ago  if you told anyone that ps4 would be this close to switch in sales for the year, they would have called you insane, and even i would have agreed, and you know how negative i can be  about switch sales.

Did you just compare MHW with Mario Tennis? In Japan? lmao

Where did I compare? I asked a simple question that you did not answer.  Now, answer the question or bow out since you cannot answer a simple question.

A game like Mario Tennis is not expected to push hardware, MHW is. Yet, a system without it, still outsold it. Without "big" games you could say. There is your answer.

Thank you for finding it and share it with us

Mario Tennis is the biggest Nintendo release in almost a year (until Super Mario Party in early October). How is it not expected to push hardware? Did Nintendo give up?

The narrative was that Mario Tennis + Minecraft + the summer Switch release schedule + the positive E3 effect was going to increase the Switch baseline starting this week.  It didnt, people just want to know why.

Thanks for this comparison. Mario Tennis did good, although not extraordinary. Gundam Breaker looks pretty bad. Minecraft - holy shit. With this comparison it should become another million seller like it was on PSV. It is a super late port. Wow!

It won’t be remotely close after Pokemon and smash. But you can go ahead and enjoy this moment.

And who didn't expect that? switch was suppose to destroy ps4 by this time of the year, literally every one thought this.

At least the switch didn’t decrease. That’s a good thing. Switch baseline has been raised a couple weeks now if you have been following this thread. Unfortunately, I’m really not seeing the same for the PS4 esp after the suppose “shortage”.

And Nintendo isn’t only one that can benefit from e3.
