Sony and Nintendo are going neck and neck with the Switch and Sony, the Xbox One is a distant third. Gamer don't seem to care third party are marginally better on the One X because of the high price point and Sony is just killing at 1 st party game. They already had Detroit and God of War and are showcasing 4 blockbuster 1st party games this year @e3, Microsoft can counter at best with 1-2 exclusive games and some third party content and at this point they need to so much better than Sony to even out the playing field and I'm not sure if they can even be competitive.

I don't think there is anything they could do that would change the sales of X1 significantly.

no, they could actually announce a load of exclusives and even some new IP.

the criticism their first party has got in the last 5 years or so has been very much deserved, there isn't some worldwide conspiracy against them. while they won't reach the same level, they can still do what Sony did and have a strong last couple of years and build up some good will for the next console. won't make much difference to sales obviously, but they can improve overall for sure

Pretty much. If they show new IPs, people will now think they will suck by default as every new IP MS launched this console generation has flopped. And if they show Halo, Fable and Gears again, people will complain that they never show anything new...

If they go all in people will regain trust in their ability to create a strong and varied exclusive library.
