Unreal Engine 4 37 86.05%

Well I havent seen a Unity game at par with Gears 4 yet.

UE4

I’m currently creating projects in both, but in regards to ease of use and professional work, UE4 is a step ahead of Unity 5.

Hm. I'm a complete amateur, but the few things I tried in both engines worked easier in unity for me.

But yeah, I don't have too much experience apart from having created levels for Half-Life and Half-Life 2 with Worldcraft and Hammer Editor. xP

Unity is a valuable engine for Videogames but Unreal Engine 4 is far superior. I guess Unity is likely to be easier to approach for indie devs

Most UE4 games look great while it seems nearly every Unity game looks/runs like fried shit

Unity is a much cheaper option, so it is used by smaller teams with smaller budgets. Which explains your observation.

You need a more detailed thread if you want an intelligent discussion.

I haven't seen any AAA Unity project that has matched high end UE4 games.
Apparently ReCore was made with Unity, that is something.

Unity can create some pretty good looking games but don't forget it's a middleware engine. UE4 costs a hell of a lot more and for good reason. Unity is perfect for smaller developers. UE4 is perfect for higher-end development teams. As for those asking yes Yoshi is using UE4.

Cuphead used Unity and it looks fantastic! :D Then again it uses 2D graphics so it must've been less strenuous on the engine itself.

Cuphead uses 3D models made to look 2D I think.

Nope, it's hand drawn animation.

Everything is 3D on modern GPU's but you can flatten them.

His point still stands though. I imagine a sprite is just a textured quad, whereas a full 3D model is a whole lot more than that. Animation can change things though because animating 3D models and animating sprites ought to be quite different.

And it is quite different. With sprites you often have to do it frame by frame.

Exactly. I imagine 2D animation is much cheaper computationally but more expensive memory-wise. Of course memory usage depends on other factors too. 2D games are often more simplistic graphically, which could still make them use less memory because of more efficient compression or lower resolution graphics assets.
