Forums - Nintendo Discussion - FIFA 18 on Switch accounted for 1% of all UK physical copies sold

This is why it's worrisome for Nintendo to still be facing the same third party issues that Wii U had. Gamers do take notice to such things and will buy accordingly. It's one thing to have lower resolution and frame rate performance, but losing crucial game features that other console versions have becomes a big issue. If it keeps up, Switch's third party situation will become the Wii U debacle all over again.

It's a poor excuse. it is missing something trival that isn't even meaningful to the game.

The effort is there for the game.

Well, it is obvious that bigger and more wealthy countries will be better markets for luxury products. But what most here mean is weakest market in terms of market share. And that is an intertesting point, especially if we see the percentage of sales of a game for different platforms. Take that into account for Lego worlds 44% too.

Yeah but their lower market share in the UK isn't really because they're weak here. It's more because Xbox is strong. It's the exact same situation in the US as well. It makes sense that your piece of the pie will be smaller when there's 3 big competitors rather than just 2.

Yeah, as this was brought up more often I think I take a look on the numbers in different markets and look hoẃ that turns out. Probably make a thread later about my findings.

So... Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite sells 8,000 units and people tell me that Capcom should continue making games for PS4.

Fifa comes out to the same amount in sales and people are steady saying Switch support is doomed. The way the gaming community and gaming business is moving is nothing short of disappointing.

I don't understand how these two ideas are linked at all. If Marvel vs. Capcom was selling hundreds of thousands on another console, then perhaps you'd have a point?

Maybe half that number? The Switch crowd and the FIFA crowd doesn't have much overlap at all - I certainly don't know anybody who thought of buying it for the Switch (most probably don't even know it released on that console).

All I seem to read on GAF is people gushing about the Switch version because it's the best handheld FIFA ever, lol.

Amazon is actually sold out of FIFA Switch and GAME is doing 'one person customer'

LOL; EA is only creating 'artificial demand'!

Well it got the forum talking. But seriously if it's sold out at only 8000 copies WTF? surely this makes no sense. why only ship so little.

Can't sell what they haven't shipped... so many people can't read.. they need to update the title of this thread.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

It's missing The Journey, missing several subfeatures from other modes (which doesn't make any sense whatsoever), and to reiterate what I said months ago, *perception* matters.  When are you people going to realize that?  No Joe Consumer doesn't have a check list of every feature missing in Fifa Switch.  But Joe Consumer has been informed, I guarantee you, through whatever grape vine they are tied in to, that the Switch is missing several features and pieces of features.  It's gimped.  Lacking.  THAT'S what the average Joe knows and THAT'S what is damaging.  It's like with Street Fighter V.  Those millions of SFIV fans, did they know of every single missing piece in SFV?  No, but they knew it was lacking content and modes and characters and that was it, done, sale lost.  Consumers aren't hyper aware of every little detail, but general perceptions filter down constantly.  And the fact EA did absolutely no promotion to offset this and no damage control of any kind (other than implying Switch owners are simpletons), this was perhaps the most predictable failure of a AAA game in quite some time.

Not sure about efforrt, everything I have read about the Switch version is that EA basically did what they have done in the past with Nintendo and other handheld ports, updated a previous year's game with a current roster and shipped it. If it was just missing the story mode, people would be ok, this game is basically a previous year (some say a previous generation in fact) sports game shipping at full price.

I wouldn't base the success of this on its first week. Fifa is obviously the last thing on most Switch owners minds and Switch is definitely not going to be the platform of choice for most Fifa fans...

I would expect the Switch version to peak during the holiday.

EA should've pretended that FIFA is an indie game. Rookie mistake.

It's weird how some field formations, transfer negotiations in career mode, and squad battles and weekend leagues in Ultimate Team mode are missing. What's the excuse for those missing features? They may sound minuscule, but they build up in what appears to be, otherwise, a decent FIFA game on Switch.
