Forums - Nintendo - Suggestions for my Switch Library

Hi, so I was planning on holding off from buying a Switch until a Pokemon mainline game comes out, but I finally caved in and bought one earlier today for 2650 HKD (~340 USD) in anticipation of Pokken Deluxe.

While I do feel a bit ripped off paying an extra 40 dollars for a Switch, one of the reasons I finally bought a Switch in Hong Kong is due to cheaper games as well. I bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for 350 HKD (~45 USD), Puyo Puyo Tetris for 270 HKD (~35 USD), and Disgaea 5 Complete for 415 HKD (~53 USD) as first-hand games. Calculating from full price, I've saved around 27 USD so far, and since I've noticed all games in Hong Kong seem just a bit cheaper (for example, first-hand Zelda was 330 HKD or 42 USD), I should recoup my costs after buying around three games in Hong Kong.

But anyways, the main reason I'm making this post is to ask for suggestions on my Switch game library. I guess what I like in games is a plot, any story will do, though I highly prefer games with happy endings. For example, I bought both Etrian Odyssey Untold and Etrian Odyssey V for 3DS, but I couldn't get through V while Untold is one of my most played games on the 3DS. Similarly, I bought Super Smash Bros for the 3DS, but I put it down after a few matches. In fact, I think the only game I played a lot of without any story was Mario Kart DS, hence why I bought it again for the Switch.

So far, I'm thinking of getting Shantae and Splatoon 2 down the line (for unreleased games, I'm thinking of Mario + Rabbids and Mario Oddysey), but I want to ask what games you would suggest on the Switch? Thanks.

As a reference, on the 3DS I enjoyed Pokemon (Mainline, Mystery Dungeon, Picross, Shuffle), Etrian Odyssey Untold, Ace Attorney, Professor Layton, Fire Emblem (Awakening and Fates), Rune Factory 4, and Kid Icarus Uprising.

Well, obviously Zelda should be great for most people. It is not too heavy on the story side, you can completely avoid all story parts. But it plays great overall.

If you don't get too much into Smash, I have doubts about Arms and Splatoon for you, as like Smash they are for multiplayer. On the other hand mario Kart is too, so if you like that you might like Arms and Splatoon. Mixed signals here.

Maybe I am Setsuna is right for you, but I haven't got it yet, so I don't know for sure and some people said it wasn't that great.

Oceanhorn and Kamiko might also good for you, but again, a lot of speculation.

For upcoming titles: if you liked Fire Emblem, obviously the new Fire Emblem next year might be good for you. Also Fire Emblem Heroes might something, although the gameplay switches from turn-based strategy to real-time Hack&Slash with strategic elements. And, if you into story-heavy games, Minecraft Story Mode might be for you.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

Zelda Breath of the Wild is the most obvious choice. It's a story-driven massive open world game and the highest rated game of the year so far.

For games with stories there's currently I Am Setsuna. Splatoon 2 has a good single player mode, but it's only around 6 hours. It sounds like Arms is not up your alley, since it is lacking in story content.

Fire Emblem Warriors looks like a must for any fan of the 3DS Fire Emblems, since it will have many of the same characters.

Xenoblade 2 is a major story-driven open world JRPR which is supposed to come out during the holiday season.

If you don't have it already Skyrim is a great choice.

I have been planning on Kamiko and Zelda, but I forgot about Fire Emblem next year, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Minecraft Story Mode. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

I'm going to have to recommend Zelda as well. It is an experience unlike any other.

But you'll have to throw out your expectations based on previous games, because this game does not play like those. For example, the emphasis is no longer on big dungeon completions with bosses at the end. Bosses are scattered mostly through the world, and are defeated to gain resources/strong weapons. But the less you know, and the less conventions you expect, the more enjoyable the experience will be; and I mean this not as a perscription of how to enjoy the game, I mean you will enjoy it no matter what, but follow what I suggest and the sky's the limit.

It is seriously one of those rare extremely standout games that seems to come only once or twice a decade. I think the chance is high that it will be the game of the generation. High in a similar way that it was for Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Bros 3 in their own times. Although, you never know, Link to the Past was a shoe in for that in the SNES era, but then Donkey Kong Country and Chrono Trigger popped up years later (Terranigma wasn't big enough, and I don't think it even came out in some countries).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Yea, I'm really looking forward to getting it, this would be my first open world game ever.

Why? Is it hard to get or something?

"While I do feel a bit ripped off paying an extra 40 dollars"

"I bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHA

Well it's hard to know since the Switch library is so small. I'd suggest looking out for Fire Emblem Switch and Shin Megami Tensei V as big Switch releases, and I Am Setsuna and Oceanborn for now. Also if you want to get Zelda on Switch do it. Plus Fast Racing RMX is another good racer

It's not out in the west yet. And I loved EO IV. Seriously that game was so innovative and unique. 10/10 Would play again. Also going to have to second that reccomendation of BotW.
