Well, obviously Zelda should be great for most people. It is not too heavy on the story side, you can completely avoid all story parts. But it plays great overall.

If you don't get too much into Smash, I have doubts about Arms and Splatoon for you, as like Smash they are for multiplayer. On the other hand mario Kart is too, so if you like that you might like Arms and Splatoon. Mixed signals here.

Maybe I am Setsuna is right for you, but I haven't got it yet, so I don't know for sure and some people said it wasn't that great.

Oceanhorn and Kamiko might also good for you, but again, a lot of speculation.

For upcoming titles: if you liked Fire Emblem, obviously the new Fire Emblem next year might be good for you. Also Fire Emblem Heroes might something, although the gameplay switches from turn-based strategy to real-time Hack&Slash with strategic elements. And, if you into story-heavy games, Minecraft Story Mode might be for you.

Zelda Breath of the Wild is the most obvious choice. It's a story-driven massive open world game and the highest rated game of the year so far.

For games with stories there's currently I Am Setsuna. Splatoon 2 has a good single player mode, but it's only around 6 hours. It sounds like Arms is not up your alley, since it is lacking in story content.

Fire Emblem Warriors looks like a must for any fan of the 3DS Fire Emblems, since it will have many of the same characters.

Xenoblade 2 is a major story-driven open world JRPR which is supposed to come out during the holiday season.

If you don't have it already Skyrim is a great choice.

I have been planning on Kamiko and Zelda, but I forgot about Fire Emblem next year, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Minecraft Story Mode. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
