Forums - Gaming - Capcom focused on Monster Hunter: World for West, won't commit to MH:XX localization

Kinda disappointing, I wonder why Capcom ditched Nintendo? Their partnership had been enormously successful.

It's just way too easy to port to Switch, that's why they don't comment on it.

Well they fucked over Playstation fans with the Switch from psp to 3DS so they're pretty good at it,  it seems.

When did they announce MH5? And exclusive to switch aswell?

The jump to the 3ds was necessary because by that point monster hunter had cemented itself as a portable series and the Vita wasn't doing well. Monster hunter did great on the 3ds and it was the first time the series was ever truly relevant in the west then the pissed it all away

Vita wasn't doing well because the Vita had not launched yet. I think the first 3DS Monster Hunter came out literally the same week as the Vita in Japan. Nintendo clearly did that on purpose to fuck over the Vita.

At the NGP launch Monster Hunter was shown on the Vita but nothing came of it. Monster Hunter 3 was originally supposed to be a PS3 game. The best selling Monster Hunter is still a PSP game.

No announcement yet. Of course its not confirmed at all, but it really is looking that way. Mhw targeting the western fans while theyll keep mh5 on switch (for japan) but it could be for both systems as well.

I mean why not call mhw mh5? It literally isnt a spun off (sort of)

Capcom have said this is the future of the series and it's not a spin off. Sure they will probably do MH5 but if world sells as planned then it will surely come to other platforms and not just switch.

MH hit it's peak on psp. When it became a phenomenon the PSP sales exploded as millions bought a PSP for monster hunter portable. So the audience wasn't just already on psp.

So if it had released on vita the same thing would have happened.  Millions of MH fans buying a Vita to play it. Nintendo after seeing the success of the PSP obviously didn't want the vita to be big competition so likely struck a big deal to get it on 3DS.

Now it did respectable in the west on 3DS so I imagine capcom think a MH on a more popular action game platform has great potential.  Especially when you include pc and xb.  We'll see how it turns out.

Pretty stupid decision by Capcom.I know I will sound childish saying this, it probably is, but I hope it bites them in the ass.

Capcom is such a miss and hit nowadays. They hit with RE 7, but then they go and do this.

This sentiment seems to be strong with all the MH fans I've talked to today. I'm definitely going to import XX if we don't get a Western release and I hope that its sales show up MHW and prove a point to Capcom. Putting all their eggs in a home console basket isn't the best policy in Japan right now (check media create).

Can't say I care really. Once MHW exists and it looks as good as it does then i'm fine.

Well with switch exclusive, multiplat with switch, or even without it being on switch mh5 is in development.

The thing is...

1) MHW is primarily for the West. Dont forget even Mh4u in the west did something like 1.5mil on 3ds. Which isnt bad numbers at all (and its not aimed at them). MHW isnt proven yet to be the huge hit (i think itll do good in the west) just yet and the game comes out in 2018.

2) MH is a yearly franchise, no way in hell mh5 isnt being developed and they are waiting on MHW performance to see what platforms the next installment will be on. MHW is like what a 2+year development game? Maybe 3years?

Capcom has alreadt made up their mind. Anyone knows with a business state of mind that switch is the platform to put a MH game on in japan as MH is a portable franchise (same as pokemon).

Of course its not ruled out im correct. Time will tell. Wait intill tgs, i bet mh5 will be revealed there for japan only (holiday 2018!)

MH had four games in five years (Freedom 2005, Freedom 2 2007, Freedom Unite 2008, Freedom 3 2010) which sold together 14.26M. 3DS had four games in four years (3G 2011, 4 2013, 4 Ultimate 2014, X 2015) which sold together 13.61M. 3DS had also a fourth game (XX in 2017) which sold another 1.5M. Looks like sales were stable despite the platform.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

Every time Capcom tries to westernize it's IPs they fail outside of RE7. Final Fight on PS2 was a disaster. Strider was looking to be another. Bionic Commando 09 was a POS. Lost Planet 3 was trash but the super Japanese one EX Troopers was far better. DmC another failure. I really do feel like MH fans should not fret that much. Capcom's track record with these things isn't very good.

At the very worst, Nintendo will cover the localization costs, just like they are the ones publishing Skyrim Switch. Either way, dumb Capcom move.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
