Just trying to say that the split community argument isn't really an argument as that happens all the time on consoles. In the end it's up to Nintendo what they want to do. I don't think anybody knows right now if they want to make a new MK soon or not. Both a new game and DLC are equally viable. But platform holders live from new games and even if it's not a big difference financially it is a real perception difference if you just supply your old games with DLC or if you release completely new games. Like it's a difference if you release a PS4 Pro or a PS5.

Just for the record, yes I find it very silly how people support and even demand with every new generation there to be a complete split between the platforms. Or else they won't recognize it as a generation jump. Silly silly console people.

It's one of many arguments.  I could also go for the one that no one wants to hear: "MK8D just released on the Switch, now shut up about MK9".

I think they will release Mario Kart 9 later in the Switch's lifecycle. There's no reason for a new game in 2018 but late 2019-20 could be good. Mario Kart is a big system seller and could help carry the platform in the later stages of its life.

Of course, they could also make another Diddy Kong Racing game, make that really great and have two fun-racers with great sales on the same platform. I'm sure Nintendo could convince most of the Mario Kart audience to give Diddy Kong Racing 2 a chance (hell, just put some Mario characters into it) so that could be a great idea.

I can see Nintendo Switch to not have another new MK game.

But Nintendo will release another handheld console and that will have MK within the first fiscal year!

Would be a shame though for people who bought a Wii U. If MK9 and SSB5 will not arrive on the Switch. SSB4 is heavily rumoured, although not announced yet.

Considering the Switch is very similar, graphically, to the Wii U, it would be kind of silly for them to make an actual sequel to MK on the Switch. It's not like a series with story that you could make a sequel to. They should probably just wait until their next device and have it at launch with that. I think they've learned with the Switch's success that having a bunch of your top gun games in the first few months after launch is the way to do things.

However, I'd like another MK DLC or two and this would be the perfect time for Diddy Kong Racing or F-Zero, games that wouldn't feel redundant like MK9 would right now.
