Forums - Nintendo - Polygon: The Nintendo Switch has become the system people love to love

I'm reading this article and for the first time sees a Switch out in the wild! I've seen a friends of mine before, but never being played on on the metro!

Thinking of getting me one myself either this year or the next, which means I need to buy Breath of the Wild again...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I knew people were going to love this because I have been doing this with my Vita and PS4 for 3 1/2 years now. Having the ability to play current AAA games anywhere you are is extreamly pleasing. Hopefully, this will push Sony and Microsoft to get mobile versions of the PS4 and XBO to the market in once 7nm fabrication makes that kind of power possible in a mobile.

I would love to see Switch signal a change in the times, and a move away from Android and iOS. Apple and Google have been the worst market leaders I have seen in my 25 years following mobile tech. The complete lack of innovation and variety over the last decade and even more so in the last 5 years since they really locked down the market, are about as sad of an event as I have ever seen in technology. Hopefully a potion of the industry can swing back in favor of companies that turn profits into new exciting eye opening tech.

There are some huge difrences with Switch compared to Vita+PS4, obvious one is Switch is one device while you need to buy Vita and PS4, not all PS4 games could be played remotely on Vita, requires good Internet connection so you couldn't play anywhere, Vita does not offer local multiplayer on one screen, Vita has less buttons...but one biggest strength of Switch is that is so practical, you go in second from home console mode to handheld mode, in second from handheld to tabletop mode, in second you can play local multiplayer on the go, all those things work great. Basically like Nintendo said, play like ever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want, with anyone you want.

Hardly we will see this with PS4/XB1 in near future (next 4-5 years), PS4/XB1 hardware will hardly fit in small factor and batter life will be huge issue in any case.

Nintendo will definitely have multiple versions of Switch, similar like they has with 3DS family.

I was not trying to say Vita + PS4 is competitive to Switch, but it does offer a similar if restricted expereince. I absolutely think the Switch is great, and as I said I want Sony and Microsoft to eventually offer mobile products that have access to the games, apps, and services available on PS Store and Windows Store. I think it will happen sooner than you think though. PS4 Slim is already down to 60 Watts in the heaviest gaming situations. Getting down to the size and power requirements of the Switch will be no problem at 7nm. So we could see this as soon as late 2018 or 2019. If Nintendo keeps upgrading at a decent clip, Switch in 2019 should surpass base XBO and PS4.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

KBG29 on PSN&XBL

Reviews for consoles at launch are pointless as they live and die by their games. All the tech reviews I read were positive whereas gaming websites had more lukewarm reviews which were strange.

In the end I think Nintendo's strategy for the hardware and first year release of software was spot on. Certainly looks like it will sell 10m +

Positive Nintendo news?? And a POLYGON article I like? Hell has truly frozen over!

Yes, PS4 Slim takes out around 60-65W peek, while Switch undocked using around 8-9W and docked around 15W. So there is no way that PS4/XB1 could come even to around 30-40W any time soon not to mentione 10-20W. AMD doesnt have so efficient mobile tech like Nvidia's Tegra tech, and PS4 and XB1 would need to use same AMD chips just in smaller nm.

Another good point is that Switch uses cartridges, so XB1/PS4 Switch like would need to be in that case digital only, because hardly you can have optic on that.

2019. is way too close for Switch to be able to surpass XB1/PS4 power with upgrade, another big problem would be battery life with that power in any case.

I don't get the love for it. It feels like Nintendo dropped another generation behind.

From article its very simple to see why Switch gets love, you probably don't get Switch love because you look only power side, and power doesnt defines new generation and you have great console and great games even without big power. Switch with its concept definitely looks like next gen device.

True, the 3DS was still an 8th gen console despite the fact it wasn't as powerful as a PS Vita or Xbox One and when everything's all said and done the 3DS will likely will end up the 2nd best selling 8th gen hardware. The power of the Switch in such a compact form factor that can be taken anywhere definitely put's the Switch a generation forward in terms of hardware progression.

"I have yet to hear many players complain that the Switch is underpowered. I have heard an overwhelming number say how cool it is to take Mario Kart on the literal road"

...Couldn't you do that on the 3DS already?

What I find interesting is how people are praising a games released on the WiiU as if something has changed with Nintendo.   In other words, Nintendo still makes the same games on the same platforms but the only difference is the hardware.  I have bought pretty much every piece of Nintendo system to come out so this rediscovery by switch players with WiiU games just makes me smile.  Its like they all wake up and found out that Nintendo is still the company they always have been and probably will always be as they care their own path to success.

It's funny how communication and marketing work. Nintendo makes the exactly same games (Zelda was already being developed for Wii U for years and Mario Kart 8 has been launched years ago), but the perception of people change because Nintendo cleared its message. Switch just corrected some flaws from 3DS (nobody care about 3D anymore, so a new portable without it and with more power was needed), Wii U (instead of a poor designed heavy control with screen, the system itself is in your hand, but you can separate the controls from it and can really play everywhere, not just near the TV) and Wii (instead of buying lots and lots of accessories, the system already comes with the possibility of two people playing together with motion controls, no cables between the two controllers like wiimote and nunchuk). NS is the result of rethinking all the things that went right and wrong in the last years of Nintendo, but don't necessarily show anything really new. Nintendo realize the most important thing: the problem wasn't games and wasn't graphic power. The problem was lack of simplicity in the message. You don't need to be a gamer to know what makes Switch unique. And people love Nintendo's games, they just needed the right reason to play them again.

that's the best article I read about Nintendo in a long while

Switch!!!

Yes it's a cool system with very awesome games.
