I would love to see Switch signal a change in the times, and a move away from Android and iOS. Apple and Google have been the worst market leaders I have seen in my 25 years following mobile tech. The complete lack of innovation and variety over the last decade and even more so in the last 5 years since they really locked down the market, are about as sad of an event as I have ever seen in technology. Hopefully a potion of the industry can swing back in favor of companies that turn profits into new exciting eye opening tech.

There are some huge difrences with Switch compared to Vita+PS4, obvious one is Switch is one device while you need to buy Vita and PS4, not all PS4 games could be played remotely on Vita, requires good Internet connection so you couldn't play anywhere, Vita does not offer local multiplayer on one screen, Vita has less buttons...but one biggest strength of Switch is that is so practical, you go in second from home console mode to handheld mode, in second from handheld to tabletop mode, in second you can play local multiplayer on the go, all those things work great. Basically like Nintendo said, play like ever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want, with anyone you want.

Hardly we will see this with PS4/XB1 in near future (next 4-5 years), PS4/XB1 hardware will hardly fit in small factor and batter life will be huge issue in any case.

Nintendo will definitely have multiple versions of Switch, similar like they has with 3DS family.

 

I was not trying to say Vita + PS4 is competitive to Switch, but it does offer a similar if restricted expereince. I absolutely think the Switch is great, and as I said I want Sony and Microsoft to eventually offer mobile products that have access to the games, apps, and services available on PS Store and Windows Store. I think it will happen sooner than you think though. PS4 Slim is already down to 60 Watts in the heaviest gaming situations. Getting down to the size and power requirements of the Switch will be no problem at 7nm. So we could see this as soon as late 2018 or 2019. If Nintendo keeps upgrading at a decent clip, Switch in 2019 should surpass base XBO and PS4.
