The Massive difference is the XBox and PS consoles are all using x86 so porting games is absolutely no trouble, porting to a totally new architecture like the tegra in the NX is far harder. |
ARM is the only other processor instruction set that can compete with x86 in terms of industry support.
It's still very different to x86 and it would still require extra work, but it's not as difficult as say... Porting to PowerPC.
The main issue would likely be performance, depending on how it's ported, hardware abstraction/translation isn't exactly free.

Probably, need to see more but from the rumours I'd say yes currently, but it could easily change when they actually announce the thing, but yeah I don't class my phone as a home console even if I can plug it into the TV, connect 4 gamepads to it and play Mario Kart.

I will start with your last point first and go up: I brought up another member of the community because it was relevent to the argument of Wii U being a hybrid or not. I would like if there was consistency in the community (not everyone must feel the same way but if there is not a general consensus, then what am I to make of the community? One minute we all agree Wii U is just a home console, the next it is a hybrid...). That you would say I said stuff I never said is not my fault at all. You have to own that mistake. Not liking to argue is not so bad. As I said, my initial post was to someone that seemed to be heading towards my line of thinking. It was not even to you so... yeah. I do not know what that means. I know what you did not say, it is what you did say that confused me. You started off like you were agreeing with me, but you were really saying the direct opposite of what I was saying. It was confusing. You should reread what you... no lets not. We should move on. I said I am not in Nintendo's budget to know these things. I am glad you are here fresh out of Nintendo's fianicial department to let me know that. I ain't buying shit you said, however. I read the rumor. The part about multiplayer said, "possibly" so I kind of dismissed it. If it has just one controller, that is no differnt than the tablet my girlfriend has. Which is a hand held, for sure. She has an ipad 3 and we bought her a bluetooth controller. As I said, if that is true, that would be dope. Dope as hell. I did not tell you to stop. I recommended you argue it with the person that believes basically the same thing as you except he thinks Wii U is a hybrid. I do not think it is. Then again, nothing you said disputes his point just like nothing I said could dispute his point either. I guess he is correct. |
Sorry we're not a hive mind! Also if you make a post it can be responded to, and if you don't want to argue simply don't respond.
If you're just going to say nothing, you can do it without text lel. What I said was crystal clear.
So you haven't at all been paying attention to Nintendo's actions and situation and refuse to believe them. That would be denial and a terrible terrible way to speculate on what Nintendo will do.
We'll see then, but most people are of the opinion it will do local multiplayer with additional controllers (since it'd be pretty pointless n stupid otherwise), hence we're calling it a hybrid.
Because... you say so. Yeah, needless to say, that doesn't change the fact that the Wii U is still tethered to a wall while a handheld isn't. To add a bit more, the Wii U also still uses splitscreen for it's local multiplayer while on handhelds each player has their own screen.
Yes they abandoned the homeconsole market, a.k.a. Nintendo knows Sont will beat the living shit out of Nintendo sales wise if they make another traditional homeconsole.
So we can pretty much blame Sony for Nintendo giving up on home consoles. Pretty Ironic actually since they didn't want to work with Sony. On the bright side Nintendo remains doing their own thing and have isolated themselves even further, given the rumours are true.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
Yes, I said that I would not comment anymore in NX threads but this is more about Nintendo as a whole... so...
I believe Nintendo is changing focus (for good-and you know I not praise them very often), whether it was Iwata's plan or not, this looks like to be the best course of action I could have imagined. In fact, this is like BtoW once again: exceeding my expectations. Of course this is talking about on paper, we still have to see if they can execute well the plan.
Nintendo is basically on the pursue of the casual/mainstream audience that gave them so many billions with the Wii/DS. But they are doing from a different angle: having other divisions/areas.
First off, numbers. If I go back at Nintendo's history and decide to do one piece of hardware, it is obvious that they are going with a handheld over a console. On top of that, if they make it hybrid, the few people that expects homeconsole experiences from Nintendo will have it in the same hardware. Even better when that device could have the best library from the company. Many of their teams will only have to do a single version and with free resources they can expand their IP portafolio. Splatoon was a recent example. And we have heard the first signals: Aonuma (Zelda) was talking about a new IP.
Nintendo has lately looking after Apple, because is a company that can control the maket to a certain degree as they have different offerings: smarthphones, tablets, laptops... Nintendo wants to do the same but with a slighty different approach: with different products: a dedicated gaming hardware, mobile games, theme parks and series/movies. The exposure their IP's could get it's bigger than not even the most powerful hardware could have done.
Do people not want to buy an NX? Good, you can play our free-to-start mobile offerings, or see our series or go to our theme parks. You have 4 differents ways to be exposed to Nintendo.
After all, bailing out from the tech race was the best decision when they can do something bigger. Of course, that's just my ignorant perception.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

It makes sense for them. this is the best move they could do. they are down and out and they know they can never ever compete with MS and Sony.
so they are going to where they are best..mobile and where all the money is...mobile. Clash Royale makes millions of dollars per day. no way nintendo would not want some of that pie. Gaming home consoles cant compete with the profits mobile games are making.
zelda for example probably costs 10,000 x more to make then clash royale. but clashe royale will make 1,000,000 x more money then the new zelda game will ever make.
and that is the sad truth of gaming. Glad nintendo woke up!
- Even if it can dock to a TV, do you see yourself using this on your TV much?
I don't know, depends on the game.
- Do you view this as Nintendo kinda going portable-only?
Yes. It's Nintendo leaving the home console market. This device, considering the rumours, seems to be some sort of Apple TV 2, but much more powerful and more premium and game-focused.
- Will you consider Wii U as Nintendo's last true home console?
Yes.
- Would you be willing to buy multiplats on it?
No.
God bless You.
My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+
When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019
There were three ravens sat on a tree / They were as blacke as they might be / The one of them said to his mate, Where shall we our breakfast take?
OP
I don't actually think it's as cut and dry as that. One could take the opposite approach and say they are giving up on handhelds. What if every system here on out is able to be portable? Obviously there's the other direction to go in saying they are giving up on consoles, but then, what if every handheld here on out is able to connect to a television?
I feel like the subject of the nx in general is farily unique to me and many other gamers out there because i don't ever buy handheld systems. They are not practical for my lifestyle. At the same time i hunger for the day i can play some of the games ive been missing out on (luigis mansion, bravely default, zelda 3ds games) on my tv.
Also, if the nx is a portable and can handle a game like breath of the wild, should i care if the system is portable?
I think the nx may be exactly what the gaming industry wanted from nintendo. A platform they can develop "handheld" games for without having to worry about making multiplatform games on a system that doesn't sell those games well.
Which brings up an interesting prediction. The nx will have "unprecendented 3rd party support". Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but i think we can expect equal support on the nx as we have seen for the 3ds. The nx won't be getting madden, or call of duty, or assassin's creed etc... but it will be getting games like bravely default, monster hunter 5, shin megami, dragon quest xx. If you DO consider it a home console (after all you can play it at home on your tv) then it will have the biggest 3rd party support since the snes and the most exclusives ever in nintendo history.
I know that's way off topic from the original question, but there's simply so much more to consider. That's assuming all the recent rumors are true of course.
I think you are asking the wrong question here, looking at sales of nintendo past consoles, the right question to ask is; have people given up on nintendo consoles?
