Another rumor and an utterly ridiculous one at that. Meh

An upgradable SOC would actually be pretty cool.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
If Nintendo releases a console that isn't static for at least 5 years then I'm leaving console gaming entirely. I have no interest in buying a console more often than that. I also am not in favor of buying a console and then having certain versions of games 'upgradable' if I purchase extra shit.
Static console for 5 years or I'm out.
not complicated at all, and this sounds like a great idea, so much better than what Eurogamer lea suggested, especially for Nintendo fans
I'm afraid it's too good to be true :/
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Nintendo needs to keep their tech "SIMPLE". - Being modular flies in the face of that.
They aren't targeting high-end enthusiast gamers here who know what a RAM is... Keep it simple. Make it fast. Let the games shine and all at a fantastic price and they are onto a winner.
Enough with the gimmicks which really add nothing to the experience.
I don't wan't Nintendo to use Tegra... At all. Even it's successor. Yuck.

32X wasn't complicated unless the user was a fucking idiot who couldn't figure out how to insert a cartridge into the Genesis to begin with. 32X just sucked ... that was the problem. It had like 15 games total, 3 of which were actually decent, and was released 5 months before Sega's actual next-generation console (the Saturn). There was no incentive to buy it. Would you buy a Wii U Plus this November or wait for a proper NX in March/April? The Genesis really wasn't designed to be modular in that way anyway, that's why the 32X looked so bizarre. The NES to GameCube were all modular with bottom side upgrade ports. This is the bottom of the GameCube:

The issue with the 32x and every other peripheral unit which is released on a later date are the limitations to exclusive games. See also the Motion+ Wii remote.
When this is true and Nintendo is doing it right, then every game out there should take advantage of it from the beginning. Meaning, the games will be scalable like on the PC with less configuration for the details. It will be rather a choice between low, mid, high or something in that direction.

Basically if true the console is like a lite custom built PC.
I think people are jumping to the extremes. Whats the difference between a modular console and the Wii (with the wii remote, Nunchuck, Sensor bar, the classic controller, the wii fit board, wii speak, wii motion + etc) ?
Modularity being one of the key design principle behind the system does not mean that the NX will launch day 1 with 10 different configurations or that Nintendo is going make consumers build their own system from scratch.
NX out of the box
-NX console (a portable unit with a detachable screen and controllers )
-Basic HDMI dock (for TV gaming)
NX marketing: Tablet/Handheld/Console all in one. Like the Tablet/Laptop combos which are increasing in popularity.
OPTIONAL NX accessories.
-Traditional Controller(s)
-NX+ (a more powerful dock for better graphics/resolution/performance)
-1080p/OLED screen (available a later point)
From a consumer stand point, whats so confusing about this?
I don't think many of you actually get what's being claimed here, it sounds complicated due to how it's presented but going over it and looking at past platforms it'll likely be much more simple than what it seems here if true. For example:
- Base model comes with all the basics (console, screen and controller)
- Cartridge format helps differing skus run games to the same performance
- Any extras is purely for avid players to further enhance their gaming (higher resolution, traditional controller etc...) otherwise the experience is uniform across skus.
Think N64 only all games play fine with out the gamepak, rumble, memory pack etc... they're only there for more advance players.
This would be excellent if true.
I do not think people would be confused by this. We live a cell phone world now where everyday people read specs on their telephone for goodness sake upgrading to the latest and greatest power phones buying accessories and battery packs and charging stations etc...
This new console philosophy fits better with the current times than the old I think. We shall see if someone actually tries it.
