Has any of your consoles ever broken down?

Two PS3s and maybe a PS2 and a PS1. The first PS3 got the YLoD, whereas the second one had a BD drive failure. I was able to fix the first one and it worked for a while, then it broke again. I managed to fix it enough to get my data safe to my new PS3. I also managed to fix the second one (changing the broken part wasn't too hard).

I also think a PS2 broke down somehow, but I'm still not sure how. I think it was retired from active use in working condition, then when it was returned to use it didn't work anymore. Or maybe it broke shortly after that? I don't remember anymore. I also think the PS1 sort of broke. I think it doesn't read discs reliably anymore.

Then there's the case where my brother tripped on the cord of the PS2 controller, and the console itself fell down and broke... But I guess that's not Sony's fault. :P

So yeah, that's a total of:

  • 1 broken PS1
  • 2 broken PS2s
  • 2 broken PS3s

So, umm, that's pretty much all the Playstation consoles I/my family have owned? Tough luck. And no, I'm not saying other consoles are better; we just haven't had any. Yeah, tough luck there too...

My PS2 & PS3 Super Slim had the disc drive stop working.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

surprised how often theres disc drive issues of some sort.
Both console makers need to be extra carefull when picking & building that area of a console.

Np, the DS story is always fun to bring back, she was annoying me because I'd never let her use my DS since she's well known for breaking every single piece of technology that she touches, just to let you understand: she's currently 22, she probably got her first mobile when she was 15/16, as far as I know she changed more than 12 phones, they were all new Phones and she broke all of them :v ; going back to the DS story she tried to take away the DS from my hands and started Fighting with me ending up with the console in her hands. After someting like 5 minutes she was threatening me to do something for her in front of the fireplace while swinging the console in her hand unconcious of the prescence of the stylus. As you might have immagined the Stylus slipped out ending up right on the top of the burning wood and she was so shocked that she let go the whole thing. Luckily the console ended up on some ash that was far enough from the fire to not get melted, or at least everything excluding a 5mm long piece of plastic near the battery light on the flipping cylinder, so that the screen now sometimes is removed from it's place and is only atached from the left side of the console where there is the cable that makes the upper screen work. Saddly the stylus wasn't lucky enough and was melted...

Woah, that's some story... After hearing it, I would be a little uncertain to lend your sister any electronics for too long.. xD

Also, dang, does the screen kind of slip out now? I'm surprised it can still work like that..

yes, it does, but it isn't very frequent plus luckily as I said the  right side of the console has the lights for battery so there is no place for the cable connected to the screen which is placed in the left side :)

PS2, disc drive stopped working.
XBox, power failure.

XBox 360 rrod x 2, power brick died recently
PS3 ylod x 2
Wii disc drive stopped working

Last gen was pretty disastrous. Older hardware is still working.

My original xbox is probably dying soon. Got some error when i started in last year. Other than that pretty good so far with other consoles and handhelds. The fat PS3 is getting louder and louder though.

I've owned a c64, atari 2600, master system, megadrive, ps1, Ps2, Xbox 360, Ps3, PS4. I've had the c64 and Ps3 break on me. Even the 360 lasted the 6 months I had it.

Oh shut the hell up already.

Completely uncalled for.

OT -

I've run into the ground a few PlayStation consoles, a couple of Xbox 360s and a GBA.

My NES is in some sort of zombie state because of the dubious 72 pin connector, so it reads carts successfully about 40% of the time. Otherwise I got a GameGear for a few bucks that had a battery leak which corroded the springs. It's not a console but I've had a new wired 360 controller fall off my PC tower and then die, but otherwise everything else has been pretty good.

The lens on my PS1 & PS2 died on me after years of abuse. But my cousin had the worse luck with his PS2 as it was dead on arrival. lol! It was tested at the store but must have died along the way since it never powered on again. lol!

My Xbox 360 launch console got RROD just over a year in its life cycle and it happened 2-3 more times after. I got it fixed and it's still working but the DVD drive won't open anymore because of age.

My PS3 just recently YOLD and my bro broke the Blu Ray driver on his by forgetting to remove the game and leaving it in there for weeks.

My GameCube no longer works because of moist. I swear the stupid floods in this country...
