Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What was the point of the "New" 3DS?

my 3DS was almost broken so I traded it in with 70€ and I got a New 3DS, with decent internet connection and a couple interesting exclusives (I'm not interested in them by now, but they seem pretty good), in the next months they should be releasing on the E-shop an F-Zero like game exclusively for the N3DS

To piss me off. And it worked. If it were just a 3DS with a CPP built in, if have been happy. That camera stick is garbage and the games I played before (MGS3, Resident Evil Revelations, etc.) are unplayable. I can't even go back and play them on my 3DS because everything has transferred to the new.

Grrrrrrr.

I intend to get one when they release a decent bundle

So never.....

Like seriously Nintendo's dropped the ball hard in this regard.

Throw a game I want to play in it and I would buy it, until then I will pass. If they never do it I guess I will never buy one lol

The point was to extend the life of the 3DS. That's all. It isn't new anymore. So they have to make something new for it.

People should of looked at Nintendo's track record in supporting accessories/upgraded hardware, in the past. To see what would happen. Like the Wii Zapper, Zapper, ROB, Famicom 3D Vision, 64DD, DS Rumble Pack, Satellaview, Gameboy Color Phone Adapter, Gameboy Printer, Gamecube Broadband Adapter, SNES Mouse, Super Scope, and the previous stop gap, DSi. The only one add-on they made, that actually was done okay, was the Famicom Disk System.

It's just a middle-ground revision like the DSi was.

Both the DSi and New 3DS were released about four years after their respective generation of handhelds began. They were meant to improve the sales of current generation hardware and games, not entirely unlike the PS3 Slim back in 2009. They could be bought by owners of older models who would then either sell their old systems into the wild or give them to family members, improving software sales either way.

Both added some new hardware features (Cameras and storage for the DSi, the second analog, Z buttons, and Ammibo support for the N3DS), and also had increased RAM (quadrupled from the DS to DSi to allow for multitasking and doubled from the 3DS to N3DS), but these were mainly meant to improve performance of current software libraries.

The DSi only ever had four retail exclusives ever released, none of which were notable, while the N3DS has the slightly more notable Xenoblade port but nothing else.

Also, both the DSi and N3DS allow for Nintendo to continue offering handhelds at a certain cost without cheating the customer. Both were launched at the same price the basic model was at for ages, meaning that increasingly cheap hardware would not cut into Nintendo's revenue.

Love and tolerate.

1) To fine-tune a few things that likely otherwise become easy turn-offs for buyers on the fence. Regular 3DS can be considered slow and awkward in many ways - N3DS improves on many of those things just enough to seal the deal with some people who want 3DS games, but have trouble overlooking some of the setbacks.
2) Amiibo
3) $

While I don't think has helped XC, I think it certainly made a difference for MH4U.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Good point about the DSi. I doubt I'll ever buy one now that they'll show new hardware next year. (most likely)

It's just part of how they do things. Every handheld gets a revision that provides some improvements to form factor and/or performance and experience. The Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advanced SP, and DSi all were the exact same kinda deal to varying degrees. It extends the life cycle, allows those who want the improvements to get them, and let them sell the console to some new people who may have been on the fence.

why does this thread exist ?

ot

it was obviously an upgrade

Hardware revisions happen all the time. ps and xbox slim models, PSP go, GBA SP etc. The point is to sell more systems and improve user experience.

New 3ds is the same just more elaborate, similar to the DSi. I don't see it as something seperate (like I kind of do with GBC). Still, it is easily the definitive version. The improved 3d is great, and the extra buttons and better performance make it great to use.
