Forums - Sony - Andrew House: PlayStation VR “will be priced as a new gaming platform” + no comment on PS4 price cut for the West

The OP should really change his source and remove the estimated price. Nobody from Sony said anything about 350 pounds, that is speculation on the part of the author and as has been shown before something in England costing 350 pounds doesn't mean it will cost $550 in the U.S. The PS4 was 350 in the UK and 399 in the U.S.

Bad info is bad.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Damn good deal. This things is worth well over 1K. If they get this out at ~$400, it's a steal. PlayStation VR represents the first real advancement in gaming since PS1 released. This will change the way we play, and the expectations we have about what games, and all media, should be.

I am excited to see what games will be launching beside PSVR, but I am also very interested to see what they have in store for software, and entertainment beyond gaming. The work they are doing with National Parks, Museums, NASA, Auto Makers, and the Movie and Music industry is very interesting to me. I think the virtual tour genre is going to be the most mass market in VR for years to come.

If it's 350 pounds it will not cost $550 it'll be $400.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

if it works as intended it's actually pretty cheap considering the new level of immersion it can deliver. if it launches with no mans sky, wipeout vr or something similar i'd buy it for sure. just don't make the mistake to make something like mirrors edge or call of duty vr because i'll pretty much for sure kill the whole experience when you're sitting while the character your playing in the game is running.

It's not really an accessory tbh.

Will be viewed as such. Unless it gets unprecedented support , I really doubt this will take off. An expensive VR device that is only compatible with one machine doesn't sound too attractive.

I don't know what kind of numbers SONY are accepting though. This could be a product that will get many revisions down the line, and Morpheus is only a first generation device that serves unambitious realistic goals, like getting the PS-VR ball rolling.... and not much else.

And I suspect PSVR will be a "family" type platform, with "forwards" and backwards compatability. Like iOS. Anyway, like you said, this is just to lay foundations, I seriously doubt Sony are expecting this to be a massive hit at launch.

Unless its something like Illumiroom, reality augmentation is generally personal.

I didn't mean it would be a family aimed product ala that Wii, I meant that PSVR would be its own product family, separate from the PS4, and more akin to iOS, with the future iterations of PSVR being able to play games for previous PSVR hardware, and the other way around.

BTW VR and AR are two distinctly different things.

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are both methods of Reality Augmentation.

PSVR hasn't been shown to be standalone.
