Forums - Gaming - People say PC games dont sell?? (Continued with more sales)

The only people who say that are those who fail to realize that VGchartz can't track digital sales.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

What dimented world do these people live in to think PC games don't sell?

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Most of these games you have listed are pretty much mmo like focusing mostly on the online component, espacially pay day i think

Pretty much this; PC games probably have a 85-90% bias towards digital distribution in the west today, making retail figures useless. As for sales; yes, there are sales all the time, but if you sell, say 10 million copies for 15$, that will provide more revenue than selling only 1 million for 60$ or less. Obviously, the biggest PC developers have not gone out of business, there are even those who make rather big games with rather mediocre sales (relatively speaking), like Paradox Interactive and their Universalis series, so clearly the business model does work.

PS: Another good one for the sales argument; I've bought probably at least 90% of my PS3 games for 10-15 euros, Platinum release, or Classics on 360, were often available only a year or so after a game released, especially if they sold well, the same was true for games that sold very poorly; they realized that selling a few units generating a small revenue was better than selling no units at zero revenue. Anyone who has ever had anything to do with sales should know as much. Heck; anyone who has ever bought a product should know as much.

LOL Amen!  The fact is that Digital DIstribution makes crazy low sales incredibly easy because the publisher doesn't have to tell all of the retail stores to lower prices.  Heck on Playstation Network their flash sales are getting dangerously close to Steam sales in terms of how marked down the games are...

OP: You listed games that born on PC(like diablo, valve games or day Z) or have huge tradition on PC(like GTA).

"Normal" AAA games don't sell well at full price on PC.We see that just by looking at Ubisoft,EA or Konami data.Even indies sometimes show that the price point per copy on consoles is higher.

Basically most AAA(and even indies) only start to sell on PC when some super deal like Steam sales or humble bundle happens while on console even that "underwhelming"/Broken AAA sells a lot day one for $60.

That is why devs are constantly releasing their games on consoles first and then on PC.They "force" the people who really want to play the game to buy at $60 without the chance to pirate or wait a 60% off steam sale. And then when they finish milking the console gamers, they release the PC version for lower price(Japanese games for example)or even full price sometimes(GTA5).

Chivalry, Minecraft, Don't Starve, Teraria, War of the Roses, and countless other Indie games came out on PC first and made the majority of their profit there.

AAA games tend to sell better on console, but not to the point you and most people seem to think they do.

Not to mention monthly titles being given away for free on PS+. This would ruin the industry then by the logic apply on PC sales, and with the number of PS+ customers; these are not small amounts of software either.

The problem with this thread is that SteamSpy tracks owners, not sales. Skyrim, for example, just had a free weekend, making every user that logged in on that weeked an owner until they logged on after that weekend. You can see it from the graph on SteamSpy: It's about 8.6 million just before last weekend, then sharply rises to about 30 million, after which there's a slow decline. Thus the real number of sales for Skyrim is probably somewhere between 8 and 9 million.

That said, this thread's point is still valid. PC games can sell extremely well. If the numbers for Skyrim really are between 8 and 9 million, it has sold about the same as the X360 version - which is more than the PS3 version. That is, the PC version is the platform with the most sales for the game, together with Xbox 360.

And it should be.  Bethesda games belong on PC.  I can't imagine enjoying them even half as much on console.  The mods really make the game...
