Is that sold-through or shipped because if it's the former, then damn o_O

It'll also mean that the PS4 is up YOY for Q1 CY2015 and I lost my bet with Ryng.

How many would still be sitting on the.  shelf right now, if at the end of march Sony shipped already over 22.3 million units anyway. Shipping "over " means more than, so how many more?

exactly we do no freaking know. But in one months time can Sony sell over 2+ million units world wide? That answer is yes.

Every single Month? No, but what we do know is.

Consumer spending picks up in Tax returns, those that miss Christmas spending tend to hold off until tax returns come in, and again there was increased bundle and sales deals for Electronics and high ticket items from the end of march through Apr.

It's at best less than 50k over 22.3 million at the end of march, since this comes from Sonys earnings report where they report shipments in million units with one place after the decimal point.

And what I am pointing out, what that report does not tell you is ramping up production when and by how much and shipped over
At Best you state its less than 50K, how do you know what it is ? We do not know. That is where these projections fall apart. Unless you know the increase or reduction in production numbers. We on this site or any do not have any idea how many over or Under the previous production numbers are from month to month .

The only thing we do know is Shipments were passed 22.3 Million at the end of March.

which is on Apr 1st the start of the new fiscal year for Sony.

before the start of the new fiscal year 2015 Sony has surpassed over 22.3 Million units shipped world wide as of March 31 2015 the end of the 2014 fiscal year for Sony.

so How much production /month in units will Sony need to meet the 2015

number of 16 Million shipped?

The new fiscal year did start Apr 1st So if you ask this very simple question. Projection of Sale through units were they lowered , the same or increased for the 2015 fiscal year? Increased..right? So when would you ramp up production to meet demand? Now ? Mid term? Later?

the blunt truth of the matter is stores are not going to be stockpiling these systems in store rooms this early right? You could say yes, but again we do not know, the demand vs production needed or required to keep up/month by month data.

but increase in consumer spending does give you an idea wwhen and what times of the year you would increase production of units. Tax season is one such Time.

would it or could it be just as much sold through as was christmas season? past says no, the majority of the time, but selling more or demand for such items can be increased.

near the start of March over 20 million units were sold through. so taking a 2.1 unit total world wide base stock what would have sold / and what is still on the shelf. Take not that total was before March 31st.

Yes the number is shipped, nothing else. Sell through is most likely about 21.4M so VGC is pretty spot on :). It is down about 20% YOY but that can largely be explained with the extra stock of 1.4M from the December quarter. It is not good numbers though, one would it would have had at least some growth, especially considering it is the market leader.

I know that it's at best less than 50k over 22.3m at the end of march due to rounding, Sony reported that they shipped 2.4 million PS4s this quarter (that's what Sony reported, not that they are over 22.3 million) bringing the total number up to 22.3 million, assuming that Sony is using normal rounding rules we can say that the number is between 22,25m and 22,34m.

And I'm honestly still not sure what you're discussing here, I mean yes we do not know anything about their production but the only point of this thread is that Sonys shipments have reached 22.3 million.

What  am pointing out is, that if Since Sony has increased projected numbers for the year that already Sony's

Shipment number's may already be very high for APR. And that by now Sony

may  already increased production which may also mean increase number of shipped units. Already. Depending on end of Apr.

#'s it will be well past 22.3 We know that for sure.

It's truly amazing what some great PR out-the-gate and an extra 180p can do

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Roughly 900k undertracked?

Hardly, those are shipped numbers, it does not have 100% sell through. Vgchartz numbers are likely quite good as they are, 1 million on shelves is well within the realm of reason for a product posting such impressive weekly numbers lately. There will usually be about one month or so worth of sales in the channel at all time, with the exception of pre-holiday, holiday and possibly post-holiday.

It is not good numbers though, one would it would have had at least some growth, especially considering it is the market leader.

It's sort of an anomaly though, as there were severe stock issues at launch and into 2014 (especially in Europe) that caused a longer than usual holiday sales swell after launch. We saw X1 launch huge, then demand was met and sales fell flat rapidly in the first months of 2014 (hence disKinect, $399, $349, etc). With PS4, the overlap of pent-up people waiting for one to come in stock resulted in big numbers really related to holiday 2013 (people that would have bought them then had they been available to buy, vs regular month to month demand).

This year the supply was steady and has been until the recent weirdness with Amazon US.

Considering $399 original MSRP is maintained, once you consider the initial stock issues causing launch sales to be stretched into the first three or four months of 2014, it all makes sense, and it's not down much YoY if you mentally estimate the difference between unmet launch demand and the general baseline. And with each price drop, you unmask a new level of base demand. There are simply buyers at $349, and especially $299 and lower, that won't buy in at $399. That's why Sony's estimates, designed to be conservative so as to beat them with actual results, have PS4 set for growth.

It's next to impossible to have growth at a $399 price point. There are a certain number of people willing to pay that much for a console, and with every month there are fewer remaining. It's not impulse buy territory for very many folks. $299 is going to bring a massive number of new people in, and then a year or two out beyond $299 lies $249/$199, when it definitely reaches impulse territory for most gamers who would buy any home console at all.

Let's be honest, PS4 is the real "PS3", cointinued dominance from PS2.  What happened last gen was weird b/c the move to blu ray was too fast and expensive, then combine that with the 360 head start and it was a very competitive gen.  But now, XB1 messed up badly by allowing a financially inferior company to out-do MS in specs.  Before launch, I predicted Sony would do their best, but that MS would match/exceed whatever Sony did. Turned out wrong and the rest is history.  So mock the 180p all you want, but how can Sony come out with a more powerful system than MS?  Shameful, really.

BTW im an XB1 owner, but the facts are facts, the market has spoken.

Well those are some good numbers to say the least.
20.2 million by the start of March, 22.3 million by the end of March

These aren't comparable figures. 20.2 million is sold to consumers estimate. 22.3 million is shipped to retail accurate count, which is what needs to be reported for Financial reporting.

VGC has PS4 at about 21.4M by the end-ish of March. 900K on shelves would suggest fairly tight supply, but within the realms of reasonableness. So fairly accurate estimation by VGC at the moment.

I'm guessing Sony's next sold through announcement will be 25 million. Or if they make over 25 million shipped by E3 they will announce that as part of E3. i doubt they will make 25 million sell through by E3, especially since Batman is after E3.
