Forums - Gaming - PC Gamers: Second Class Citizens??

Not really, but they only miss out on some AAA games 1st party studios or which company's pay for exclusive rights to get more hardware sales, something which cant really happen with PC gaming, but on the grand scale of things PC gamers get more variety and different genre's of games such RTS and 4x games(I couldn't live without them) along with massive markets on MMORPG's and indie games.

+ Higher Resolution and better Graphics
+ More FPS in all games

Not all PCs
+ Games cost less

Competitive Price of Demand
+ Online MP for free

Not for Subscription based services like MMOs
+ Mods for free

Valve wanted to charge for mods. There isn't any guarantee they won't try it again.
+ Steam-Sales

Competitive Price of Demand
+ A lot of indie titles
Price of Entry is a lot lower. Probably won't change
- Some games delayed
- Some games console exclusives only

So the answer is NOPE ! :)

It doesn't seem to be as clear cut as some make it to believe, and I do think the reason is money. The benefits that PC gamers recieve are generally because its an open platform.

With regard to developer and publishers only 2,3,5 are controlled by them since Dev/Pubs don't make mods. Not to mention many indies, that don't use alot of power are migrating to mobile as well.

I think many of you are confusing the benefits of being a PC gamer with how Devs/Pubs this generation are treating PC Gamers which is what this question is asking about. Resolution and Framerate is more of an effect of ones own hardware rather than good treatment.

No PC gamers aren't "second class citizens." Is the PC more of an after thought as a gaming platform to the biggest developers i.e Ubisoft, EA, Activision? You betcha. Why? Sales and to a lesser extent, Piracy.

No.1 Console gamers are more willing to pay the full 59.99 for their games and usually sales are typically higher per individual game. Higher sales/margins means more focus.
No.2 Piracy. PC games are almost always pirated with very few exceptions. There are pirated console games but nowhere near he extent of PC games.
There are other considerations to be sure, ease of porting, game type, developers preference etc. but I think it comes down to the cost/benefit ratio being more favorable on consoles so developers/publishers tend to focus their efforts there.
So with that in mind I think it is more, you get what you pay for than PC gamers being treated as "second class citizens."

Simply put it like this -

GTA the original Launched on the PC Oct 1997 the Psone version of the arrived Dec 1997. PC 2 months ahead of Console launch

GTA4 PS3/360 Launch Apr '08, PC version Dec '08 Console version 8 months ahead of PC launch

GTAV Ps3/360 version of launched Sept '13, PS4/X1 versions launched Nov '14 and the PC version Apr '15. Console version out 19 months before PC.

Those are facts, dates set in stone which show PC going from launching ahead of console counter parts to years later, you getting an impression from that fact that PC gamers are the top prio for companies is dreaming.

Simply put it like this -

Those are facts, dates set in stone which show PC going from months later to launching ahead of console counter parts.

Honestly PC gaming feels the strongest it has since the 90s. It was unthinkable to see many Japanese games on PC even 5 years ago, now I am surprised by the number of niche Japanese games coming to Steam.

Strange, i kind of feel like the exact opposite, that PC is making a come back. More and more games seem to already get a proper pc version, even Black Ops 3 is going to get some extra attention to cater to those with more powerfull hardware. This is nothing new offcourse but it's very early in the gen.

I think we will see more and more proper support for PC the coming years, and it will be absolutely dominant in VR gaming.

i've always thought of PC gamers as second class citizens.

pc is mostly for college age kids too poor to buy anything but ramen, beer, and a computer to pirate games for. as you grow up you grow out of pc gaming and either be like me and move to consoles or quit gaming entirely. pc gaming is just a phase kids go though.

This is the most nonsense post in this thread.  If anything the opposite is true.

The Souls series has actually become something of a cult hit on PC, and it spawned releases such as Lords of the Fallen. Games like that would be unthinkable on the PC only a few years ago.

Liberation HD and Watchdogs both launched on PC same date as on Consoles, Ubisoft giving the PC some loving indeed. Point well made not all companies are going the same trend.

GTA V on PC is an incredibly good port that works on a range of computers. At the lowest it looks worse than PS3 version at 720p30fps, at the highest it looks far better than PS4 version at 4k60fps. That's what I call a good port.

I have it on PS3 and PS4, but its obvious that Rockstar gave PC gamers a treat with GTA V.
