Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon Details - No Gear Transfer, No Custom Private Matches, Other Details

Wow, that's really disappointing. There better be a day one patch to fix this... This is just unacceptable.

All this confusion... We need a Nintendo Direct to set this straight

How did the "e" not end up capitalized?

And woops, looks like I jumped into conclusion. Good catch. Custom matches should be included though but that could always get patched in.

Again, out of curiousity, what kind of customization were you expecting or hoping for? Judging from everything that we've seen, there was no reason to expect any type of custom matches mode...

Well for starters, we don't know if the lack of custom matches mean we can't choose what stage or game mode (Turf/Splatzone) to play. And if these are still the only customizable features in the lastest demo that IGN played with, then this could be what they're referring to.

If IGN was able to try out some cool new things that could be customizable but could not talk about it, I'm going to trust their judgment that the lack of customizing that is a negative as well. This could be possible too since they only gave one sentence about the lack of private custom matches with friends.

Edit: And this is assuming that IGN isn't stupid for thinking the lack of limiting players' weapons mean a lack of customization.

This is worryingly ambiguous. I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

IGN has a video about it on youtube.

While I will admit that IGN worded it terribly, there is no reason to assume that. Customization in Smash more centered around toggling specific items, and in Brawl, there were things like "Giant Bunny Eared" matches (not sure if they are in Smash 4). I think we can expect multiplayer in Splatoon to be fairly similar to Mario Kart 8 multiplayer (you can pick the stages and your character and whatnot, just you can't mess with the ruleset).

Like you said, it was only one sentence of the article. They didn't exactly make a big deal out of it.

I have an idea for a new thread.

"Splatoon lacks achievements"

And see a bunch of people angry for a feature that they were not expecting and thinking that the game lacks in content or something like that. It would be funny. Or sad. Or Both.

Have any other gaming sites said anything similar?

That could be it. I guess we'll have to wait for an upcoming direct to know for sure. Or another gaming journalist that explains it better

Disheartening. I'd like to see for myself what exactly is in the game before passing judgement.
