"Unlike Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, there is no custom match types"

Ok, no custom matches. Unlike Smash? That makes not much sense, but whatever.

"to play privately online with friends."

Sooo, not customization while playing privately with friends, or no custom matches such as private matches?

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

That's the question really, isn't it. It's poorly worded as with a lot of Splatoon news it seems...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

That was my feeling too. I'll wait until we get some clarification either from Nintendo or a test as the wording here is really ambigous

Doesn't impact me anyway, as none of my friends has a Wii U atm

I have it pretty clear right now. If was only a confusion man. This is coming from gamnesia on a poorly written reference to this IGN comentary:

The last thing that stood out to us was user customization. Splatoon doesn’t offer custom match types with friends like Smash Bros. Specific user settings for look sensitivity controls can only be adjusted before (or after) a match. So if you’ve set one too high (or too low) you’ll have to jump out in order to make adjustments. It feels slightly backwards for an action shooter released in 2015.

These still feel like small issues for a game capable of much grander ambition. Splatoon is fun to play. And it’s rewarding. Whether splattering foes with a roller brush or using it to claim a swath of territory, both actions come bundled with a thorough feeling of accomplishment.

Thanks for the heads up. So it's just like I thought, you can do matches with friends, just not customize these matches

I can also understand why you can't switch setting in-match, as these are fairly short and practically every second counts, so the time lost for adjusting those settings might be too much to redeem the whole team from failure. Besides, don't you people set those already when playing the single player campaign?
