Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon Details - No Gear Transfer, No Custom Private Matches, Other Details

I don't see why people are using the clarification to make it seem like everything is suddenly okay. No custom private matches in a 2015 premium priced shooter is embarrassing.

And that before the remember that we've only seen two online modes a month before release, one which won't even be available at launch. People have every right in the world to voice their displeasure on how this game is turning out.

Dude you sound so obnoxious. Looking for clarification is a perfectly reasonable sensible thing to do.  Saying otherwise is ridiculous.

My bad. And yeah, nothing wrong with being the MK of FPS. I just don't think it's wise for people to expect a core game out of it. Mario Kart isn't a core game, it's a casual game. Judging Splatoon's features against something like COD or Halo is just unfair to Splatoon.

I don't agree with this, games are as "hardcore" as you want them to be. You can play MK for fun or competitive, and it has a lot to offer in both ways. It's as hardcore as CoD or Halo are, in my opinion. We have to judge Splatoon's features as it is, a competitive shooter. It has to be fun, but, if the content is lacking, it will fail as a game. It must appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers, like MK does. But, we'll know when Nintendo decides to do a Direct of it. I'm very sceptic at the moment...

What makes Mario Kart casual is the fact that you don't need alot of skill to win. All you have to do is drive "good enough" and then get lucky with the right items at the right time. Compare that to playing GT where it takes extremely skill and total knowledge of the game in order to even be competitive. There is a huge difference between the two.

While I haven't played Splatoon, from what Reggie said and the videos I've seen, that's what they're going for with this game. It looks like it's going to have a very low learn curve and allow for people with less skill, the ability to win. That is in stark contrast to something like Halo or COD where the gap between decent players and the top players is light years apart. You can't just be "ok" in those games and expect to finish with a 21-2 KD spread. It's just, not possible.

My personal take on casual is basically something that doesn't take alot of skill or knowledge to win at. That's what defines "casual" for me.

Mario Kart is like Poker. Maybe one run is unfair. But when you play 10 if you are the best, you win.

I've been playing since the original. I'm in my mid 30's. I can beat freakin' Contra without a cheat code.. but winning consistantly online in MK 8? Im-fucking-possible. I can finish top 5, sure. Almost always am I in that range. But winning? Pure luck.

In order to win, you must race very well (I always do), but you must ALWAYS have some item behind you at all times unless (again, luck) the number 2 player really sucks (very rarely happens) or is having bad luck with items (not often). Then, there's the entire bullshit with blue shells that I'm not even going to get into.

Mario Kart is not a game someone plays if they expect to win all the time. I tried it, it's just rage inducing lol. If I play now? I play for fun, knowing that winning really isn't in my hands.

Meh

Shouldn't it be "The number of fucks I give"?

Anyways, doesn't really matter. I was laughing out loud when I saw your post... at the office, which is... awkward...

Perfectly represents my feelings though

Again, is the same as Poker, you can´t play expecting to win everytime, but when I playe with friends the few with more experience always ends up having more points than the ones with less experience after several matches, at least in MK8. Those are my experiences. Is not Mario Party, there´s actual depth on Mario Kart, but it needs to be funny to all kind of players, if you are bad but you have the satisfaction to win from time to time, you will get more involved with the game and you will get better. But being the best doesnt mean that you are going to win always, because that would be very very boring.

Damn! Nintendo needs to put these simple things into their games. Who knows how it could be the deciding factor of someone buying the game or not. And how critics will take it very big.

Pocky Lover Boy!

Here comes a big patch for the game, I think

Okey, that's a very good answer, I coudn't do it better :P. Yeah, maybe if you're an okey player you will win some races, but globally the best players win almost every race. I don't know how they do it, because even when I think I'm doing the perfect race I'm way behind them, but, it happens. You can't be competitive in Mario Kart only being an okey player, like all the competitive games. It's more accesible, everyone can win one race with a lot of luck, but it takes hundreds of hours to master MK and win races constantly (aka being competitive).

I hope Splatoon manages to do that. Being accesible and hard to master at the same time is difficult. I want it to be the Nintendo's answer to the competitive shooter scene. That's why I'd like it to have tons of content, maps, modes, a solid single player experience, etc. But, as I said, I'm waiting to the pertinent Direct and reviews to make up my mind. I'm very sceptical at the moment, but I see a lot of potential on this game. It's not my most wanted game of this year, but, it can be if they do it right.

Edit: Reading the posts above, a normal person wouldn't expect to win in MK like the 95% of the races (hell, it's impossible to me and I've played MK more than two thousand hours) but I know people that always ends first. It's boring to me, but, it's possible to do that. How? I don't know lol
