I've been playing since the original. I'm in my mid 30's. I can beat freakin' Contra without a cheat code.. but winning consistantly online in MK 8? Im-fucking-possible. I can finish top 5, sure. Almost always am I in that range. But winning? Pure luck. 

In order to win, you must race very well (I always do), but you must ALWAYS have some item behind you at all times unless (again, luck) the number 2 player really sucks (very rarely happens) or is having bad luck with items (not often). Then, there's the entire bullshit with blue shells that I'm not even going to get into.

Mario Kart is not a game someone plays if they expect to win all the time. I tried it, it's just rage inducing lol. If I play now? I play for fun, knowing that winning really isn't in my hands. 

Again, is the same as Poker, you can´t play expecting to win everytime, but when I playe with friends the few with more experience always ends up having more points than the ones with less experience after several matches, at least in MK8. Those are my experiences. Is not Mario Party, there´s actual depth on Mario Kart, but it needs to be funny to all kind of players, if you are bad but you have the satisfaction to win from time to time, you will get more involved with the game and you will get better. But being the best doesnt mean that you are going to win always, because that would be very very boring.
