Take the Mario And Luigi games' usually awesome writing, then give it a wondrous Mario Galaxy backdrop to justify scenery-porn settings and out-of-this-world action sequences - you're on to a big winner. If you can work in the subtle tragedy plot hidden under Galaxy then even more so.

The capacity of the layman who thinks they know Mushroom Kingdom after playing just a few 2D platformers to follow it though is another story, which would affect audience reactions.

I had a link to it in my reply to the OT. Was surprised that the creators of the film basically gave it a NC-17 rating on their site. (No porn but a lot of "mature" themes and gore.)

Based on the Mario leak, Nintendo had a deal with Sony for a Mario movie which was completed. Avi Arad, the producer even met with Iwata and Miyamoto apparently and they celebrated by having cake or something per the leaked emails, lol.

So that still may be coming. Movies aren't made in a few weeks, it just may take a while for the script to be finished first and then CG movies have usually 2-3 years required for the animation.

Interesting.. I really wonder how could a Smash movie even work!

The first Mario movie was bad for the same reasons every possible mario movies will be bad :

1) Every design decision in Mario games is based on interactivity, which doesn't exist in movies (like goombas having a bumper-like design)

2)Easy money
