Ok, here I go... Fifa is a uninspired cheap game that releases year after year (without count world cups) with practicaly any significant upgrade and a lot of overpriced dlcs yet its the most successful EA game by incredibly big margin with no signs to become irrelevant

Fifa being the top sport game must be a incredible hard task when football is the most praised sport of the world and your only competitor is PES

If you think FIFA is uninspired and cheap then you're wrong.

EA do a great job on FIFA. They put a lot of effort in to it and have made a fantastic game. It fully deserves its success.

Indeed, they've put a lot of time and effort into FIFA over the past few years.

Konami took their eye off the ball with Pro Evo which set it backa long way. Well, for the proper versions they do.

Vita has had 4 versions of FIFA 11 now with no changes from the first one other than they removed online play from the most recent one.

3DS/Wii/PS2 are also all the same, but that's the curse of the "Legacy Edition". The PSP had it's FIFA 07 reskinned and re-released right up until FIFA 14.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I can see 2 paths:

- they step up their hardware game, be in the same ballpark as next PS/XBox and do major reimagining of their company (unlikely scenario, given all the "Nintendo culture" talk)
- they pull another Wii - low specs, but with, let's say, VR glasses for $250 and VR Sports

...or something completely different...

They will be as relevent as they are currently in this generation.

Cool. Enjoy 40,000 units per week sold :P

Ironically, this post is irrelevant to the topic.

I just hope that Nintendo's next console is as traditional as their most successful consoles before (excluding the Wii with the Motion Gaming gimmick). A competitive powerful console with a normal controller (no screen, no tablet, two joysticks, two triggers, etc) and 3rd party support. That's it.

If Nintendo can still be relevant with the Wii U, and they are, they can be relevant through anything.

You cant compare gaming internet forums to real life. Outside of forums Nintendo really isnt really that relevant.

"Say what you want about Americans but we understand Capitalism. You buy yourself a product and you Get What You Pay For."

Contrary to what a quarter of the posts here bring up, Nintendo does not need the next console to be vastly stronger to the ps4 for success.

First, nintendo is not a loss leader and every console out the gate is profitable due to using components that cost less than the sum of its parts.
Second, Nintendo games look very good without the need for bleeding edge tech due to the color palette, art design and simplicity. Releasing an overpowered console would unnecessarily add to the price and Dev time.

Could Nintendo thrive once more? I think so. They need to stop being as arrogant as a company though and realize the flaws in their decision making.

Make the controller user friendly. If you want to make it unique that's fine (a la N64) but please don't go nuts with it.
Start getting creative with new IP. Bring attention to your console by targeting older demographics that can actually pay for your console. Most grown ups look at the lineup and it's just not as appealing as it was to our younger selves.
Overhaul the online infrastructure. I'm not saying charge for it but give it standard features we've come to expect. Splatoon could be so much more if it had voice chat, 8v8 and a bigger realized scope of action. Keep that in mind for other games. Let us properly communicate with each other.
Don't go head to head with the other guys. Build up your momentum this next gen, gain goodwill and go from there.
Give the gamers what they want!!! Why haven't we seen an mmorpg first person Pokemon game on console? That should've been a priority. Where's metroid? Why isn't mother 4 a thing? Put the breaks on Mario, make his releases meaningful and find a way to reinvigorate what made him so special. Outside of the current fan base, many of us find him repetitive. Change that, please. Maybe a console only Mario/Luigi RPG in the vein of the superstar saga series?

I dont think they will ever be irrelevant.

The others are irrelevant because without them nothing would change.

Without nintendo everything would change.

I'm not talking about just gaming forums. I'm talking about overall gaming coverage. The Vita, a system that consistantly enough outsells the Wii U, gets almost no coverage and is talked about a fraction of the time. It's not relevant. The Wii U gets nearly as much, and in some cases more, coverage than the PS4/XBO. It is relevant. It's just not selling well, which is completely different.
