| Hiku said: Yeah, I agree with you on that. Well perhaps a Metroid, F-Zero or Kid Icarus would seal the deal, but they're doing pretty much all that can be expected of them from a game development standpoint. It's their decisions with the hardware that cased this situation. Frankly, I don't think they could have handled the WiiU any worse than they did, short of not paying for Bayonata 2's development. |
Metroid or Kid Icarus could be in development (F-Zero isn't nearly as likely) so I guess we'll see. There are some unannounced Wii U games releasing this year.
But yeah, they handled it awfully. Like, terribad. They really should've just waited an additional year or two to get third parties on board and make their system more powerful. That also would've left them with games like Super Mario 3D World and Pikmin 3 as launch titles, which would've been so much better. I really think the Wii could've held down the fort until the Wii U launched, considering it wasn't selling all that bad even in 2011.
Ah well, hindsight is 20/20. Nintendo knows they fucked up, so hopefully they just don't make the same mistakes next gen.
Wii U has been on the verge of death for two years already, with a couple of games prolonging its agony and making people believe it still had a chance. At this point, having Zelda release a few months later doesn't really change anything. The only people that didn't want to acknoledge Wii U's tragic fate were unreasonable nintendo enthusiasts, but I really think that Wii U's scarce line-up for 2015 won't be such a big deal anyway. It's not like everyone would've bought a Wii U if Zelda released in 2015. Nintendo know that their fans are already on Wii U, the delay makes sense.
If they don't drop the price this year then they definitely let it to die.
The Nintendo's problem is:
if you like RACING games:
nintendo console: you have 1 only decent game (and its a arcade one, you have no other option)
microsoft/sony console: you have 30+decent games
if you like FIGHTING games:
nintendo console: you have 1 only decent NEW game (and its a arcade one, you have no other option) and other 1 or 2 oooold games
microsoft/sony console: you have 30+decent games
if you like FPS games:
the same...
if you like strategy games:
the same
.
.
.
quantity + quality > 1 game quality by category
if I dont like adventure games...i' ll never play mario, donkey kong, zelda, luigi.....dont matter if is a "nintendo game" if you HATE this kind of game.
No matter how much consoles nintendo can do....it will aways be: zelda, mario, metroid....saaaaaaaaaaaaaame oooolddddd few games true stigma
Yea cause we always know what games Nintendo has in store right? /s

That is actually an artificial magic number that forum posters have conjured over the years; it has no bearing on products that no one wants to begin with. I suppose this is where I point out that the Gamecube was only 99$ after a rather short time on the market. A product that sells really, really poorly at 299$ won't start selling very well at 199$; it will likely cause some on-the fence stragglers to take the plunge and then go right back to being ignored by the masses when the dust settles. It didn't even do a thing for the Wii, which was almost completely aimed at this very market that supposedly responds so heavily to this price point.
Price is certainly a factor in consumer electronics but this myth of the "magic mass market barrier" at 199$ is simply false. When we see some products get a large boost from reaching this particular sum; it is the price cut itself and not the number that causes the surge, not to mention the fact that there are similar examples of great boosts of cuts to much larger sums. The greatest argument is the smartphone though; they certainly do not cost 199$ but they certainly do sell to the mass market, and if anything; the market is seeking more and more towards the high-end units that cost the most.

€222
€23 to much for it to fly off the shelves?
EDIT:
€212 in Sweden with Super Smash Bros

Acceptable, that's your opinion but I still believe it will sell really well with this pricepoint even for a longer period of time..
Glorious? That's a bit over the top lol. What would of been glorious is if Sony launched the PS3 well from the start and brought out more software that made sales even stronger. Nothing glorious over trying to bring sales up after a dull launch, but yes it was good of Sony and good for them for having a successful console.
Moving to the actual subject, Nintendo won't leave the Wii U to die. The Wii U will live it's life just as long as their other consoles or at least close. I do think the Wii U will probably never reach sales that Nintendo want though which is a shame. At the end of the day Nintendo's still supporting it and developing games for the console which is the complete opposite of what Sony are doing with the Vita. As somebody who owns a Wii U, at least I feel somewhat satisfied with it. Still E3 so anything could happen really. A Metroid game would definitely make up for the Zelda delay for me,
