Funny considering the PS4 has the largest game library out of all the 8th generation consoles despite being on the market a whole year less than the Wii U.

They could have done what was necessary at any time. They chose to let it die. |
What do you mean "let it die" though? To be honest I think it stacks up with where the Wii was fairly reasonably. Lets compare Wii to Wii U at equivalent years from launch:
Wii 2008:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Animal Crossing, Endless Ocean, Wario Land Shake
Wii U 2014:
Super Smash Bros. U, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Donkey Kong Country: TF, Captain Toad
Winner: IMO Wii U takes it, better library.
Wii 2009:
New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus, Punch-Out!, Excitebots
Wii U 2015:
Kirby Rainbow Curse, Mario Party 10, Splatoon, Yoshi's Wooly World, Xenoblade X, Devil's Third, Project: Giant Robot, Mario Maker, Star Fox U
Winner: Even without Zelda, I'd say Wii U has the better lineup here. I think people are sleeping on Mario Maker too, that's going to be a hit.
Wii 2010:
Super Mario Galaxy 2, Sin & Punishment, Metroid: Other M, Kirby's Epic Yarn, DKC Returns, Wii Party
Wii U 2016 (Hypothetical):
Legend of Zelda U, Metroid U (?), Pokken Fighters, Paper Mario U (?), SMT x Fire Emblem, Fatal Frame (West?)
Winner: Probably hard to comapre at this point and a bit unfair to Wii U, but Wii did have a very strong 2010 even though Metroid upset people.

It's a shame, cos they had many opportunities to turn Wii U around, but they let every one slip through their fingers. Doesn't inspire much confidence in buying their future hardware.
The sales are horrible and even the New 3DS interests are declining. They already knew in 2013 that Zelda U 2015 was not realistic. No Metroid news, no pricecut to compensate, Splatoon doesnt look interesting because it looks too messy so I think it will not sell that well, Xenoblade Chronicle X is tthe only interesting game but that is still too far away so yes I think they give up the WiiU...
The Wii-U just lost half of its AAA games for 2015, there is only Xenoblade left. The X1 or PS4 could not afford to loose half of their games without a major impact on system sales. Would you buy a system for just one game?
