Forums - Nintendo - 8th gen Nintendo published titles, could Nintendo support themselves with a unified concept?

I dont think they will make only 1 mk game the entire generation.
I still think they will keep the smash bros strategy, but deeply. One game for each console, conectivity between versions, but each with exclusive content. And more content for those who buy both.

also, i think pokemon will keep handheld exclusive. But if you have both consoles, you can play on TV.
The big 3D Zelda will be console exclusive, but you can play remotelly if you have the handheld too.

Porting was the  wrong word. Nintendo would have to downscale the games for HH in order for them to work.

And that's a problem, why?

Some of those titles in OP were "rushed", so even though we'd get a little less than that list, the quality would be even higher, which is impressive considering Nintendo standards. The fusion concept is a win all around.

The scary part about it is, everyone seems to be making this (Fusion) prediction, and that's when Nintendo will shock us once again w/something out of left field lol.

Ya it wouldn't necessarily be a 1:1 ratio but still what's better, 2 seperate platforms that get 12 Nintendo-published titles/year or a single unified platform that gets 20 Nintendo titles/year?

It's not like it's just a random blind prediction tho, many statements from Iwata & Miyamoto suggest something similar to this is their plan.

Numbers wise, yes.

Diversity wise, no.

I've been saying this for many years. Unified console = twice as many games for one console. It would solve alot of problems.

Unified Console = Weaker Console. Nintendo would be senile to make an underpowered console for the third time in a row.

If every game is on two unified consoles, going by the theory everyone has now with the game having superior graphics on the console and scaled down on the handheld, that means the dozens of handheld games that would have come out if the two were seperate all of a sudden need a lot more work for the scaled up console version.  This is gonna significantly cut their game output.

Ya, easily. All those games on one console + good marketing = HUGE SALES

I woudnt put games like ninja gaiden as a Nintendo published games or New super Luigi U as a game (lol) not to mention the more than a few remasters and some shovelware here and there. Nevertheless and for the sake of the argument lets just say that Nintendo is able to launch 1 game per month (counting with the second party support). Well, i think thats not good enough. Sry but third party support should be the number 1 priority for Nintendo.

Well that's the great thing about this strategy, Nintendo is now free to branch out and increase their number of new IP by not having to make 2 of all their main franchises. For example, the Mario Kart team can release Mario Kart 9 in 2017 and support of with DLC for 1-2 years then go on to make another racing game that plays different from MK, perhaps something along the lines of Nintendo's own take on Need for Speed. They could do something like that with alot of their teams now.

This is true, a lot of the games are overlapping franchises/entries.
