Forums - Nintendo - 8th gen Nintendo published titles, could Nintendo support themselves with a unified concept?

I find your last line a bit odd... You say they'll still get Japanese support and indies, but many of those games are japanese games that are merely published by Nintendo in the west. Same counts for a few indie games on that list.

If you mean that the same game can be played on the handheld and console? Then yes. If Nintendo had this approach with 3DS and Wii U then they wouldn't have had to make 3DWorld and 3DLand. Same with DKC, Zelda, Mario Party, and almost every other franchise. They had to make a console version after they made their handheld version. Not only that if their concept works with whatever limited 3rd party support they get, then it will be a bonus.

A console version of Bravely Default? Yes. A Handheld version of Bayonetta 2? Yes. Stuff like this could stretch out the library for both systems. The tricky part will be to make sure that the handheld version isn't gimped enough to affect the gameplay.

About the ip thing. They could just bring back an old Nintendo ip and make it new and fresh again, They did it with DOnkey Kong Kinda, and with Kid icarus, and both did preatty good. A new kid icarus game on Wii U would be nice. So what could they bring back? Ice climbers possibly, and Maybe another new Earthbound game. Also about castlevania games. I feel like they have a huge potential if they are handed out to nintendo devs, or atleast do some castlevania games on Wii U. I could see it have potential, then simon belmont in smash bros 5 roster.

As long as they reach 60-80 million units sold in hardware, yes. An unified library would mean that the people who usually only buy the handheld could be interested in the home console, and they could try even erase the price difference between handheld/home console (EVERYTHING LESS THAN 40€ PLEASE, help all the wallets of the world). The only problem I can think of the fusion idea is the distribution of games. Digital has no problem, but how would they put the games on a phisical format and functional with both platforms? Mini CDs, Cartridgs, digital copy free with the cartrige/disc...?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yes a few of those titles are 3rd party games that Nintendo published in the west, I'm saying Nintendo will still get a bunch of Japanese and indie support from non-published titles. 3rd parties like Square-Enix, Capcom, Platinum Games, Namco, Sega, Atlus, Level-5, Tecmo-Koei all have a strong relationship with Nintendo and that won't magically disappear because Nintendo unifies their devices and Nintendo's relations with indies has been getting better and better in the last few years, I'm assuming that will continue.

Maybe... But I really don't like the unified concept to be honest...

What don't u like about it?

Yes they can. If they go it alone next gen I could see them selling 15m home consoles and 50m handhelds. Enough to justify the gen and it would keep the hardcore fans happy.

^ To me the best part would be that Nintendo would be forced to either revive old IPs (Wave Race, Earthbound, etc.) and/or create new ones!

Yep, no longer will there be the need to make 2 entries of all their primary franchises which will allow them to branch out make more new ip or revive old ones.

Yeah. One of the things i really miss is those days where you anxiously waited for the next Mario or next Zelda.

I think they are overusing their biggest franchises and not really working hard to create new heavyweights. Some Wii series games did that but those days seem to be gone.
Splatoon is a great step in that direction and all the attention it has got so far shows that Nintendo knows they need something more and they should continue doing that.
