Your quote doesn't really fit what he said. There's a big difference between seeing 'adult' as a term of approval, and simply believing something is too childish for your tastes. The reverse (believing a game is too violent etc) is also fine. You wouldn't criticize a 40 year old for saying they've outgrown Dora the Explorer, nor for being uncomfortable with shooting someone in a game. |
Yeah i wouldn't, because dora is a infant program. Splatoon is TPS with mechanics that make it more complex than a lot of "adult" shooters nowadays. If you were trying to compare both things you are dong it very wrong
We reap what we sow

If you cross someone saying it's just a shooter with colors than you can safely dismiss his/her comments since it's assured that that person hasn't been paying attention to Splatoon at all.
Signature goes here!
I must say, I don't quite understand what is so supposedly unique about this game. Everyone is hyping this idea of shooting/painting the walls as if it's the greatest thing ever, but the de Blob games on Wii literally had that as their multiplayer...

This game has plenty of deep mechanics that out do many shooters these days on its gameplay portion. Each character can have various rolls such as shield or paint roller or AoE and each roll is important to winning the game and plays differently from each other. On top of that, if you are a squid, u can traverse the level in various different ways like via thin wire for example and how u spread the paint can really change how you and your team mates go around the level and where the enemies can go to. And the list goes on. |
name one shooter in the last 10 years that doesn't have more than 1 gun type...
most shooters these days have jet pack gameplay, or vehicles, or mechs, or whatever.
those taking offense to the "shooter with color" line by listing off some gameplay elements,.. i seriously think you underestimate how many non-nintendo games have more than 1 gameplay element in them. by my last count,.. all of them do. saying splatoon is soo unique because it's got a couple twists on the base shooting mechanic is really a backhanded insult the all the other games in the genre that already do that too.
It seems like a combination weapons-based platformer in the vein of Ratchet and Clank (or, dare i say, Super Mario Sunshine) on the one hand, with a unique brand of online multiplayer on the other hand, with goals different than what we've seen shooters do.
It's more like a tactical conquest game that happens to involve shooting.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
Splatoon is a mix of shooter, platforming and from what I've seen there are some puzzle elements (portalish?) besides that like others have said it's not mainly about shooting your opponent and more about shooting everything ells making it unique to other copy > past shooters out there that keeps on exciting "hardcore gamers" over and over again

I liked what I saw at E3, but my only worry that the content of the game will be barebone like Mario Kart for exemple.
But the presentations proved me wrong, and now I'm pretty sure this game can become a Nintendo Classic.
And I'm really happy that Nintendo didn't make it another Mario game.
It was about time Nintendo created some new franchises.
This game is going to rocks
But Splatoon is not JUST about shooting, which frankly cannot be said for the typical shooter!
