Forums - Gaming Discussion - Do you think splatoon is just a shooter with colors?

Oh right, those. Yeah, those were legit issues. Hmm, that may have brough up concern for the game, but I guess we`ll see how people are towards the game closer to release.

And another thing.  The hype for Xenoblade seems to have taken over it.  Are those games releasing close to eachother?

I`m not sure about the release dats in any of the regions. X is still not known in EU or US, and Japan Splatoon comes out afterwards. Maybe it`s getting overshadowed in Japan, but in the west, not sure.

I'm pretty darn excited for splatoon... It looks different and fresh, and a splash of color never hurt anyone

Anyone who says that doesn't even know the most basic concept of the game, and thus should just be ignored.

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

I consider it an Arena Shooter with high emphasis on Area Control and Player Mobility.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Go on and create a thread with a title: SMASH BROS is a fighting game period.

by the way...the key word is "JUST"

Nice definition! Don't forget that it has a story mode with some platforming focus too!!!

Visually, it looks interesting. From a gameplay standpoint, I haven't able to play it, so I can't judge but it seems to have gotten a good reception at E3. So either the people in the media who were playing it are full of shit or maybe Nintendo is doing something right that a lot of other developers seem to be doing wrong. We'll find out soon enough.

It's a shooter that looks too young for the taste of many, myself included. However, given Nintendo aficionados love for all things colorful, the game seems  right up their alley. It's niche but I think it will find good success.

"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms.   When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." -C.S. Lewis

Your quote doesn't really fit what he said. There's a big difference between seeing 'adult' as a term of approval, and simply believing something is too childish for your tastes. The reverse (believing a game is too violent etc) is also fine. You wouldn't criticize a 40 year old for saying they've outgrown Dora the Explorer, nor for being uncomfortable with shooting someone in a game.

I think it's a very nice change of direction to what shooters have been for the majority of previous gen: gray, super serious, and not very different from each other.

Also, cute squid lolis are cute.

On the contrary, I think it fits perfectly as the objection is exactly the age perception of the game. Again the here the objection has nothing to do with game mechanics, it's the "kiddie" colorful perception of the game image that is to blame. Again I quote: "to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence". Wanting to seem grown-up & only playing games that don't "look too young" is quite the opposite of being a real adult.
