LOL Once the combos start you'll start to see that the non directional pads inputs will feel like quarter circles. I've done combos where I pressed half the diambond and went around in a full circle and then back around again. If he plays with the simple strong hits and combos he'll be fine though. I see where you're going. |
You do some weird combos. Standrd simple bound for Lee (my character of choice, in PS speak, none of that useless 1 2 3 4 crap from me):
↗ + Circle - Triangle, Square, Square (this bounds them) - → + Triangle, Square
No quarter circle anywhere. Most of Lee's moves though don't include that style of play, they are quick. Like I've mentioned before, Tekken has combos but it's far more tactical. I've whooped people online who try to do juggling this or that just by noticing this and countering everything they do, short attacks and not one juggle. I pissed off one guy loads because I kept running up to them and throwing them over and over because I worked out his tactics and he couldn't get out of throws.
Hmm, pie.

Ouch...thats rough but i agree with what you say in both opinions. However some people arent good nor do they want to learn complex fighters which is ok.
That one game you talk about is very casual friendly unlike most fighters but can be played pretty damn hardcore by some players, thats why its so popular.
Oh and btw Burning Typhoon, im excited to see your video and the worl youve done :D

Tekken characters combos are more complex in that they are longer and are different from one another (depending on the character). When I was talking to you specifically about combos I was talking about Feng Wei ( whom I tend to main). Play as Brian and the combo input gets weirder. My hat is off to the top tier Tekken players.
Law...is one of the easiest characters to understand. He even has a basic combo that just demands square and it unloads a flurry of punches. I'm beyond him at this point, but he's still fun to play.

Feng? Instant respect from me then, I generally have no respect for those who play online as Kazuya, Asuka or Law. Asuka's counter throw stance I hope is removed from future games, dang this is spammy as hell. Feng has some great combos and is fun to play, I play him more as a powerful hitter, not combos at all. Bryan is hilarious though, he has some moves that make no sense. Infact if I recall one of his is a kick that is used mid combo (↗ plus circle too) that makes no sense in character movement, but then I find it funny it's exactly the same as Xaiyou's move when pressing that, down to the annimation.
Hmm, pie.

They aren't any longer, I've done touch of death combos in marvel that go past the 99 hits the game will count. Okay, well, it was an infinite, BUT... the combos in 2D games are longer than 3D games. That knee he's talking about can be side-stepped, and punished pretty easily, but if he did manage to land it, we're looking at what? a 6 hit combo? The combo he's talking about doing isn't even an optimal one.
Law isn't fun to play. You do know you can duck under that "flurry" of useless punches, right? Or, better yet, sidestep? Good way to get counterhit, right there.

That counter doesn't work against lows, or shoulders. I think knees, and elbows are good too. Don't spam punches or kicks and you'll be fine.
I play them on occasion but I don't have time to learn a fighting game. You only really get into the fun stuff once you are a mid level player and getting to that level of skill takes time and dedication. Had I picked up fighting games when I was younger I probably would have less of a hard time getting into them.

Oh, I know, Lee has a great little kick move which is low and quick, so I use that. But he also has this move where he carthweels backwards and kicks, it's a mid and it's a great match starter as it avoids high opening attacks, but many Asuka people start with the counter so I used to get hit by it. It is also so easy to do a move and go straight into the counter, meaning if I make a quick move after blocking loads of their attacks, I'm in a throw before I realise.
Easiest way I find to really punish them is a throw.
Hmm, pie.
Back in 2009 I was obsessed with fighting video games. I still do really like them (my profile picture is an example), maybe more now than 6 years ago.
