Forums - Gaming - Why don't you play fighting games?

I sold my 360 and haven't got SF4 for my PC yet.

Since I'm a competitive player in nature, I didn't enjoy getting my ass handed to me by superior nerds and nerdettes.

Serious fighting games like Tekken require tons of practice, patience and diligence. I don't have neither the time nor even the mood to take that on. I no longer think it's worth it to be honest.

I know it might just be me but the Fighting genre needs an overhaul. Sure, Tekken 7 looks nice and all but is it really impossible to give it a meaningful upgrade/new mechanic? Tekken 5 was a massive leap over 4.. Step cancelling added an extra layer of sophistication to the franchise. I think developers need to figure out new ways to keep the genre fresh.

I can understand you, playing online is a bitch. I am generally better than everyone I know at Tekken. Yet online, I'll come up against people who are better than me. Although I also come up against people who are not but beat me anyway through spammy gameplay. This is far more frustrating that losing to a superior player.

For many, and probably the reason why SF and Tekken are still going, the skill they have learnt over the years comes from the series being so old. In terms of 2D fighter, SF is still king and there are only 3 3D fighters left on the market when once there were loads (end of PS1/Dreamcast era).

But I do have to ask, what would this upgrade/new mechanic be? They are introducing rage arts and some other things, which differ from 6, which itself introduced rage and bound as mechanics. How can 3D or 2D fighters really change that much now? It's all been done pretty much. Just like FPS games, no matter how much is changed on CoD or Battlefield, they are still essentially, and always will be, the same.

Hmm, pie.

Damn, is that the purse the top guys split at the end or is that all for the last man standing?

NO.  Get this answered somewhere else, I'm trying to get feedback on what people need to know about fighters.  It's enough of a mess in here already.

From my estimation, it seems that the sentiment in here has a lot to do with the complexity of the system, combos,  and other factors such as  not playing online and more. Essentially all of the factors in why Super Smash Bros was created. Its a game where nine times out of ten people dont feel overwhelmed by controls.

I've met people who wanted to play the old THQ UFC because they saw my friends having these deep and intense fights with submissions and reversals. When they saw all of the button prompts, they backed away and started asking if we could turn off the Xbox and play the Nintendo Wii.

I suck at quarter circles

Hardly any of those in Tekken. *hint hint*

The upgrade would be to throw out all the outdated crap and artificial entry barriers installed when games were pastime for kids leeching on parent's quarters in arcades. If FPS were so hellbent on keeping every single relic from ancient times as FG are, Call of Duty would be a game about running in 30 levels of maze and collecting red/blue/yellow keys and gold from secret areas.

Another good thing would be moving FG to f2p so the stream of new players won't run dry in 2 weeks, causing the entire population to polarize around ultra-hardcore. AI that actually follows a reasonable meta instead of blatant cheating would be nice too.

I sometimes play Smash Bros or Injustice: God Among Us with friends.

To be fair Pokemon is very technical.

As for Fighters vs Smash theyre both in the same genre but one is a brawler. Its like comparing a JRPG to a WRPG.

Smash has a more welcoming and easier entry point than regular fighters, but at a high level its very tough as well.

I can't be bothered to remember combos and if you don't know combos, they devolve into simple button mashers. And that's no fun.

The only "fighting" series I'm consistently into is Smash, and that's so unorthodox compared to more traditional games like Tekken. I can play them every once and a while, but I'm not a huge fan unless they have some sort of big gameplay twist.

You realise Smash has combos right?

He's talking about something different.

Smash combos are no different to other fighters.  Do move > time next move correctly to combo.

Ok? Your misunderstanding what i mean. Im not disagreeing with you. Im just saying that Skullwalker is talking about input combos. Meaning you have to execute all these buttons for certain atks followed by other combos to pull off.

SSB doesn't do this. Just 1 input to do whatever atk.
