I always see people praising Rare for their work in the 90s with Nintendo, but honestly, I don't think they are really THAT good

DKC 1 and 2 were pretty good, 3 is no doubt the worst in trilogy

I didn't like Banjo Kazooie, I'm not a fan of running around just to find stuff, I would take SM64 over Banjo any day. Banjo Tooie is pretty much the same

Jet Force Gemini was ehhh, just go play Gears of War for a better TPS

Never played DK64 or Conker, might pick up DK soon but Conker is just to expensive

GoldenEye is not very good either, not only is it not a very good FPS, but I don't think it is a very good game in general.

Also never played Diddy Kong racing, but I think I will just stick to Mk64 thank you very much

Last but not least

Star Fox Adventures SUCKED, I want a on rails shooter, not a bad Zelda clone

But what says you?

Let's summarize a bit: you didn't play DK64, Conker and Diddy Kong Racing.

Moreover, you forgot to even mention Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct and Blast Corps.

Seems about right. You're unbiased and you've convinced me. And please, don't waste your time developping arguments to prove you have the truth.

I never really was into DK so I can't judge.

Banjo-Kazooie was pretty much Mario 64 + more content and prettier worlds. The platforming and stuff was different, of course, but it took what Mario introduced to another level.

JFG is way older and Rare managed to create something smooth on a console that would never be able to handle GOW.

Conker is exceptional as the devs simply had fun creating it.

GoldenEye is THE FPS so you can't compare it to any game that has been released after it except for that it introduced lots of stuff that is standard. If you haven't played it back then, sure it's "bad". But if you played it, you should see its value, or if you have some sense for history.

DKR played and looked better than MK64. It may not be everyone's cup of tea with modes, art style etc. but, again, they took what Nintendo introduced and made it better in their own style.

Starfox wasn't even meant to be Starfox (probably not even a Rare decision). If it had been the planned N64 release as a new IP it could have been a big thing. It never happened and Rare wasn't really RareXNintendo anymore when the GC was released.

No.

First DKC games are very good, Banjo Kazooie, espacialy GoldenEye are one of best games in generation, Diddy Kong Racing is probabyly better then MK64,

For all their games released on SNES/N64, they deserve love evan today. Those games were on pair with Nintendo's and some were even better, too bad Microsoft destroy them when they buy them.

I think biggest Nintendo mistake (for them and gamers equally), is not buying Rare instead Microsoft, today we could still have high quality Rare/Nintendo games and some of the best games in generation.

Who ever voted yes is either a Sega fanboy or wasn't around in the 90s. Oh and did the op say he played dkc on the gba, that's like the gimped version. Anyway I think this thread is total flame bait and you know what shows a lot of disrespect for my generation. At least rare knew how to finish a game on time and release it fully working, unlike a lot of so called big AAA companies today.

I officially declare you the gamer with worst taste for games the world has eve rseen. Either that or you didn't play those games at least on their prime.

Sorrry bud ;)

Right one question did you play these games in the 90's when they released or early 2000. If not your opinion counts for nothing at all.

Nope.. It's hard for me to agree with something like that when I enjoy most of Rare's games! Star Fox Adventures is an exception and I'd like to think that the Kinect games don't count!

Games age over time however when Rare were making there games they were all in another league of there own. Not only did Rare compete in all types of Genres, but they would succeed in dominating there competition.

Rare made Games that not only competed with the best but beat the best

*Diddy Kongs Racing is one of the best Kart racers in its day, its as good as MK64 and maybe even better.
*Golden Eye/Perfect Dark were some of the greatest FPS games on all platforms even beating the PC market.
*Killer Instinct was a dominate console fighter and one of the best, out shining SF and MK
*Banjo Karzooie is to this day one of the greatest platformers ever made, gamers still prefer Banjo over Mario 64 and M64 is one of the greatest games ever made.
*Donkey Kong Country is claimed one of the greatest 2D platformers ever made, beating Super Mario World and not many games can go side by side with SMW.
etc

There are many great companies today that can only stick to certain genres. Rare competed in many genres and were the best at it.

Example - Naughty Dog tried to compete with Mario Kart and 2D and 3D Mario games in there respectful genres and had there ass's handed to them. Rare on the other hand not only matched but beat Nintendo's own games.

They were clearly one of the greatest companies around when they were on. There talent pool was the best, however these days due to many retirements and staff changes Rare is just a name. Just because they don't make GOTYs anymore doesn't mean there games aren't good or even great.

Old School gamers will respect Rare, they weren't afraid to change things up and try out different genres, and when they did they were A+++.

Rare will remain in many gamers hearts for offering great experiences for those who grew up with them. Your clearly not one of them.

Rare deserve the praise they got, games like Goldeneye, Conker, DKC and so on had no console alternative at the time and some for years.
