Not useful for what a Beta is originally intended to do, finding and fixing bugs, of course marketting is a positive, but then again, wouldn't it be a better idea to not have temporary bugs or glitches put a bad taste in the mouths of people?

In the end I think we agree though, people need to be able to get their hands on a barebones Splatoon multiplayer demo/beta to increase awareness and allow for an online community to grow more easily.

I think Nintendo will do something similar to the demo code distribution for Smash Bros. It really got the hype train going.

You're assuming there are any glitches, which I saw none of at E3. The game already was running so smoothly and has it's core gameplay mechanics down, and that was over 6 months ago. I guess I shouldn't call it a beta though since what I'm imagining would be just like with Uncharted 3, an online multiplayer demo 2-3 weeks before the game releases.

It wouldn't help that much, really .

Wynaut? OP already gave examples where it did help.

Well, beta is not only for just find bugs, but also adjust game balance, so beta might make sense. But I don't think it is Nintendo's style.

I'm sure people said similarly about Nintendo making a new IP out of an online multiplayer focused shooter!

I assume there are glitches and bugs because of the term Beta being used, but as mentioned, in the end we want the same thing, a way for people to play Splatoon and share their experiences without the €60 barrier. Youtube channels will provide free marketting and online communities can start to grow. Your Uncharted 3 example sounds like something I can get behind, similar to the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS demo that was released 2 weeks before the release of the final game.

I think the definitely should.

Whether it's called a beta or online demo is moot. The point is that Nintendo should provide a way for people to sample Splatoon ahead of it's launch.

Give us 3 maps and a couple of game modes to test servers/balance/whatever, but ultimately, to prove to the fanbase that Nintendo can do an FPS style game. Do it as an invitational (similar to Smash 3DS demo), to give a bit of hype around it.

That would be an awesome idea! Too bad it's not very likely to happen... :/

I don't think it needs its for quality reasons because NINTENDO, but it would be a great way to built up some up and deliver additional content to Wii U owners in Q1/Spring

No.. I don't like public betas anyway and it just doesn't fit Nintendo.

Wynaut?

Just cause I am used to them releasing full games when they're ready.

Looks like Nintendo said yes!
