Beta's are done to discover bugs and faults in an unfinished game, demo's are designed to introduce people to the game concept and convince them to purchase the full product, they are very different.

I don't think they should do a public beta, but instead as mentioned, release a multiplayer demo, preferably one that carries over progress.

w8 what?  open betas are just marketing... it is not realy usefull because to many idiots take the free stuff, that makes it hard to get good feedback. the only usefull betas are closed betas without giveaway keys

Agreed. There is very little difference between an open beta and a demo.

An important difference between the two for me is that one is an unfinished product and the other is part of a finished product.

That can be a great idea.

I don't think they need one. Betas are used to find bugs. Nintendo does such a good job of that themselves that they probably don't need a beta. However, I do believe that most other companies should have betas.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Nintendo should do some heavy marketing with this game, maybe take a loss on it, so it can become big for its sequel. Like give out a free game like the MK8 deal (games that have already profited enough, of course)

I agree, open beta's are just marketting and not really useful, so instead of doing a public beta, keep it in house, fix the bugs and release a free multiplayer demo alongside the main game.

Not useful? Marketing is exactly what this game (and the Wii U in general) needs!

Not useful for what a Beta is originally intended to do, finding and fixing bugs, of course marketting is a positive, but then again, wouldn't it be a better idea to not have temporary bugs or glitches put a bad taste in the mouths of people?

In the end I think we agree though, people need to be able to get their hands on a barebones Splatoon multiplayer demo/beta to increase awareness and allow for an online community to grow more easily.

I think Nintendo will do something similar to the demo code distribution for Smash Bros. It really got the hype train going.

It should, but it won't.

It wouldn't help that much, really .

What do you figure they'd give away though? If you run the same lineup, you run into issues of what people may already have.

Seems to me this would be a good list:

Lego City

DKC: TF

Hyrule Warriors

Toad

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

- The Wonderful 101 (it flopped, might as well give it away for free)

- Sonic Lost World (^)

- Lego City

Not sure about Capain Toad and Hyrule Warriors. They only released recently and they could have decent legs. Same goes for DKC: TF really, although it would be a good deal.

Yes, because I want to get my hand on it asap
